Temples in Bangkok are one of the most important parts of Bangkok Tourism. In fact, if you are on Bangkok tour and you don’t visit the temples, it is just not worth it. The kind of architechture one would see in these temples, it is very difficult to see anywhere else. Colored glasses and intricate structures in gold can be seen only in this part of the world, known as the City of Angels.
The best time to visit these temples on Bangkok tour is early in the morning. The weather is cool and the temples are less crowded. The temples are known as Wats as per Bangkok Tourism and are not only attractions for tourists but also form a great part of Buddhist rituals and traditions. The monks stay in the complex of the temples and the prayers start at four in the morning. One can see the daily ritual of alms known as Tak Baht taking place daily here.
There are so many temples in Bangkok that you might get confused which to visit and which to miss out. Below mentioned are some important temples that are promoted even by Bangkok Tourism for their cultural significance, beauty and Buddhism. While visiting the temples, keep in mind to dress properly. Short and revealing clothes are not allowed inside the temples, especially in Wat Phra Kaew or the Grand Palace. Also, note that these temples are not opened after 6pm in the evening.
Temple of Emerald Buddha
Wat Phra Kaew or the Emerald Buddha Temple is the most famous and important shrine in Bangkok worth visiting. It has an image of Buddha made from single Jade block by carving. It is worth visiting on Bangkok tour.
Temple of Dawn
Wat Arun or Temple of Dawn is situated on the Chao Phraya River bank and is a famous landmark in Bangkok.
Wat Mahathat
It is the largest Vipassana Meditation centre in entire Thailand and is the study center for meditation and Buddhism.
Wat Prayoon
Situated on the bank of Chao Praya river if Wat Rua Lek or Wat Prayoon and has a Pagoda or bell shaped chedi along with a turtle.
The other important temples to visit on Bangkok tour are Wat Pho or the shrine of Reclining Buddha which is largest Bangkok temple, Wat Saket or the Golden Mount, Wat Sutata or the Giant Swing which si the oldest temple and the Wat Traimit or the Temple.
