Often people ask the question if it is right to visit the graveyards in Islam and the answer is yes. According to Sunnah, Islam has given the consent to the Muslims and it is allowed for them to visit the graves. In fact, some Muslim scholars state that it is an obligation in Islam to visit the graves of your loved ones. Although it is not recommended to women to visit the graves but that doesn’t mean that they are not allowed to do so. They are definitely allowed to go to the graveyards but somehow it is not suggested to do due to some other reasons. It is always a desire of people to visit the graves of their parents, loved ones, Holy saints and Prophets. Therefore Islam has given the permission but there are some conditions. One should not cry, weep or behave inappropriately in the graveyard. There was a time when visiting the graves was prohibited in Islam because of the unsuitable practices that used to carry out on the graveyards. People used to worship the graves of the saints and this faith was getting prevalent day by day. Due to these unfortunate acts, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prohibited to visit the graves but for a limited time period. Prophet’s graves were not allowed to visit in the early years of Islam due to this worshipping reason as well. People used to bend down in front of the graves of Holy saints, and used to worship them by making them as idols. But as the teachings of Islam started to spread, permission of visiting the graves was given to the people with conditions applied. The purpose of Islam was to worship the one and only God Almighty and not anyone else. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had been buried in the Holy Masjid-e-Nabawi which is present in Madinah. Madinah is the most blessed city of Saudi Arabia and each year numerous Muslims from across the world travel to Madinah by availing different packages like Ramadan Umrah Packages 2017.
