Several people seek other ways to treat depression due to the negative reports regarding antidepressant Zoloft intake. The good thing is, recent studies suggest that vitamins may be used to ease depression, instead of antidepressants. Among these are Omega-3, folates, SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) and St. John’swort. “We always recommend that patients take these natural supplements under the care of a doctor and not independently,” advises Dr. George Papakostas, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Besides being helpful in maintaining good heart condition, an escalating medical results suggest that omega-3 fatty acids may also be essential in alleviating depression. The rate of depression cases is lover in places where people have an omega-3 fatty-rich diet like sardines, mackerel, salmon and tuna. This is based on studies published in the American College of Nutrition journal in 2009. Several studies have presented that folates, taken in conjunction with antidepressants, enhanced the effectiveness of the medicines and have been proved to lessen side effects.rnThe American Journal of Psychiatry published a new study saying that SAMe is as helpful as an “add-on” treatment to antidepressant drugs in some people suffering from major depression. In addition, some medical studies say thatSt. John’s wort has the capacity of alleviating depression more than a placebo. But others present that St. John’s wort is “a little more effective” than none at all. Oral medication (antidepressants) and talk therapy are the usual ways to treat depression, as prescribed by medical professionals. Antidepressant medicines are primarily meant to reduce extreme sadness, hopelessness and lack of interest in life that are usual for those with depression. In summary, among these studies on vitamins involved Omega-3, folates, SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) and St. John’s wort as subjects. Besides being helpful in maintaining good heart condition, an escalating medical results suggest that omega-3 fatty acids may also be essential in alleviating depression. Folates taken along with antidepressants improve the effectiveness of the drug, studies show. This also trims down some side effects. SAMe is equally effectual as an “add-on” treatment to antidepressant medicines in some major depression patients. In addition, some medical studies say that St. John’s wort has the capacity of alleviating depression more than a placebo. Due to the various negative analysis regarding Zoloft, a number of patients are now finding safer ways to treat depression. Zoloft is an antidepressant drug manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Its generic name is setraline. Media reports have it that when Zoloft was out on the market, it quickly became one of the largest-selling, globally available antidepressant drugs.
