“Take a deep breath… close your eyes… and relax”nnIf I had known then what I know now, I would have understood that something as simple as those three hypnotic suggestions can be a wake-up call…the kind of wake up call that transforms your life instantly, dramatically, and irrevocably.nnFortunately for me, I was paying attention. I listened to the voice stirring inside my heart and answered the wake up call when it came. nnThe day I received the call began like most of my days for more years than I’d care to admit. I woke up, jumped out of bed, lit a cigarette, and took a long drag as I walked out onto my deck to greet the deer grazing in my yard. nnSmoking had been a part of my life for more than 37 years. Over the years, I had tried to quit smoking more times than I am able to count on both hands… without success. Patches, gum, inhalers, stop smoking medications, you name it…I tried it. Nothing I tried helped me stop smoking. I’d almost given up hope that anything would. nnNow, if you’re like me, and you have tried to break a habit, you know how challenging it can be. You may be able to recall how the struggle feels inside of you….it’s almost as if your heart and your mind are at war. The more you try to avoid thinking about your habit the stronger the urge becomes. nnIt becomes a vicious cycle. You try. You fail. You feel bad about yourself. You try again. You fail again. You feel bad about yourself again. You keep repeating the pattern until finally… you get frustrated… tired of feeling like a failure… stop trying… and give up. nnIt matters not whether the “too much behavior” you’re trying to give up is smoking, eating, drinking, working, exercising, golfing, sexing, etc. (you get my point.) nnYou can end up convinced that you’re doomed to live the life you’ve been living… instead of the life you’d love to live. nnI was almost in that place. nnUntil I decided to give myself one shot. I made an appointment with a hypnotist for a one-on-one stop smoking hypnosis session.nn(Pay close attention!….I’m about to get the call.)nnLooking back now, I’m not sure why I didn’t ask more questions when I scheduled the appointment. nnI guess it’s because the hypnotist sounded calm, confident, and very convincing when I called. She assured me that I could be hypnotized and would become a permanent non-smoker. She told me 99% of her clients stopped smoking permanently with just one session.nnI listened to my heart…. (It was pleading with me…please try just one more time)... took a deep breath and a giant leap of faith, and made the appointment. (Ring, ring, ring, ring!)nnI walked in a smoker.nnI walked out a non-smoking believer.nn* A believer in the power of the unconscious mind and hypnosis.n n* A believer in trying one more time even if you are completely convinced you will fail again.nn* A believer in asking for and listening to the wisdom of your heart for the answers you are seeking.nn* A believer in listening for and responding to a Wake-Up” call.nnWhat I thought I knew then and I’m convinced of now, is that each of us will get a wake up call…in fact, probably more than one.nnAnd… if you are not paying attention…you’ll miss the call.nnIf you’re stuck in the destructive vicious cycle of try, fail, stop trying, give-up, and just live a life of quiet desperation…chances are you will miss the wake-up call…the wake-up call you’ve been hoping for … the one that will transform your life instantly, dramatically, and irrevocably.nnIf you’re moving through life at breakneck speed… allowing your life to run on autopilot…forgetting to stop, breathe, and live in the moment… chances are you will miss the wake-up call…the wake-up call you’ve been praying for … the one that will transform your life instantly, dramatically, and irrevocably.n nWake-up and pay attention… you don’t want to miss the call!nnHow will you know when you have an incoming call?nnHere’s what you might want to consider that worked for me….nnSlow down… go to a quiet place, and just listen…nnListen for that quiet little voice inside your heart…(ring, ring, ring!)nnYou’ll recognize that voice…it’s the one deep inside you that keeps whispering…nn“Take a chance”nn“Please try again” nn“I believe it really will work this time”nnAnd, if that doesn’t provide you with a ring, ring, ring…nn“Take a deep breath…close your eyes…and relax….”
