Most mornings many people all over the world wake up to worry. They wake up and begin to think about all the things they have to do. They wake up and begin to worry about how the bills are going to get paid. They wake up worrying about their health or their family. We really need to make a decision to wake up without worry, without wishing we could go back to bed and without weariness.
Psalm 27:1-3 “The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”
Most of the things we worry about when we first wake up aren’t really that big of a deal. Most things we worry about early in the morning don’t even happen the way we think they are going to. Most things we worry about as we begin a new day can be handled by God if we are waiting to hear His voice, putting our hope in Him, watching for opportunities and being willing to serve Him throughout the day.
We need to wake up waiting. When we wake up in the morning, we need to wait to hear God’s voice. It is still and quiet in the mornings. God is waiting to talk to us. When our minds are still sleepy, God is awake and ready to talk to us and hear the things on our minds. He is the best person to handle our worry first and we need to give Him our conce
s and wait for His answer
We need to wake up wondering. When we wonder about what great things the new day is going to bring and what plans God has in store for us, we will have hope. We will have hope in the day knowing God will be with us and help us through the day. We will have hope He will handle our issues and support us in all we do.
We need to wake up watching. We should wake up and watch for signs God will give us about doing His will from the moment we open our eyes until we shut them again at night. When we have a watchful mindset, we are more aware of opportunities throughout the day where God wants us to step in and take action.
We need to wake up willingly. Yes, it is tough to wake up from a good night’s sleep, but we need to be willing when we first get up to take on what God has in store for us. So many times we aren’t willing. So many times we go the other way because we don’t want to do what we need to do. God wants us to be willing servants ready to do His will rather than trying to avoid doing things all day.
We need to wake up worthy. We can wake up feeling worthy of what God has in store for us. When we fill our hearts and minds with God’s word every day, we will know every morning when we wake up that we are worthy of the gifts and blessings He has in store for us. When we read His word and trust Him in all we do, we know we are worthy because He loves us and has great plans for us. He doesn’t want us to fail.
Waking up from a deep sleep isn’t always refreshing until we get up and start moving around. To wake up feeling great about the day, we need to make a practice of waking up with God on our hearts and minds. When we wake up with worry about what the day is going to bring and wishing we could get back in bed, we aren’t going to be able to focus on what God wants us to do and we won’t be able to make a difference.
