Walking in the Holy Spirit

Knowing the role of the Spirit, helps us to understand that we are not alone this life. God has given us Himself through His Spirit. The more we walk with the Lord and trust in Him, the more we learn to lean on His Spirit. To walk in the Spirit means that we continually keep our eyes, ears and attitude in line with what the Spirit is revealing or speaking to us. When He directs us, we should immediately follow and obey His word. We turn away from reacting within ourselves and with our own thinking to listen and lean solely on Him.

As humans, we have natural tendencies to look at situations through our physical eyes and our human reasoning. We are used to be self-reliant and thinking that we know what is best. However, when we come to know the Lord, He gives us His Spirit so we have His mind, His thoughts and His ways open to us. Relying on the Spirit is a struggle at first because His ways are not our ways nor are His thoughts. He calls us to forgive when someone hurts us; He tells us believe when we do not see a way or He tells us to wait, when our own thinking is screaming, "Make something happen". Trusting and leaning on the Lord's Spirit is a process that occurs the more we surrender the things in our lives to God.

Slowly, inch by inch, situation by situation, we see the Lord weans us from our old ways and patterns to start to live by leaning on His Spirit. As we do so, we see that the Lord faithfulness to us over and over again. As we walk daily with Him, we see God's love for us and that He has only His best for us. Everything, even the hard things in life, He uses for our good, to draw us closer to Him and to give us His good gifts. Walking in the Spirit then becomes something that we desire to do because we experience His love and know that we can implicitly trust Him in every detail to give us the best.
