Walton on the Naze is a small seaside resort town on the coastline of Essex. It has many tourist attractions including Naze Tower which features heavily on the Naze peninsula area to the north of the town centre, heading towards and stretching approximately three miles into the North Sea. The Naze is a well known area of open space and has several national and international protected areas of interest including John Weston's Nature Reserve and the wetland areas of Hamford Water and Walton Backwaters which are rich with bird life including Brent geese and wintering ducks and there is a small colony of approximately 70 seals, both grey seals and harbour seals that reside on the mudbanks. The cliffs are of Special Scientific Interest, standing over 70ft high and popular with fossil hunters as they can easily find examples that are in the region of 55 million years old including shells, pyritised wood and sharks teeth. Walton on the Naze also has its own pier, originally built in 1830 and classed as being one of the earliest piers to be built in this country; it now stands at 2,600ft long, giving it the status as being the second longest in the UK. During the 1890's the pier suffered massive damage during a particularly bad storm and so in 1895 the then owners opened a new longer pier than the original, several extensions followed over the years, making it the pier it is today. Currently the pier is home to the Walton and Frinton Lifeboat team and has many amusements such as tenpin bowling, a passenger train and a café. As you would expect, Walton on the Naze is popular amongst walkers and there are many 'set' walks that you can follow, usually taking in the natural beauty of the headland and surrounding areas, one such walk would be the exhilarating Walton Walk which takes in the cliff area of the Naze. Not surprisingly, due to its natural beauty and plentiful wildlife, it is a haven for artists and this area has not only produced its own well known artists but others have chosen to live here, indeed shortly before his death in 1909 the artist Frank Paton moved to the town. Taking a stroll along the sandy golden beaches of Walton on the Naze is like taking a walk back in time. The beaches have a row of beach huts and despite the fact that this area has undergone massive regeneration over the years, with modern cafes and amenities it still has the wonderful feel and charm of a Victorian era. Walton on the Naze has a bustling, busy, regenerated town centre. Modern architecture blends seamlessly with the original Victorian styles and there is still a weekly market held here. Other amenities are as you might expect for a growing town centre such as a skateboard park, an indoor swimming pool, a museum, a library and an indoor bowling green. Part of its attraction is the fact that you are 'near enough, but far enough away' from the City for commuters, with regular train services, bus services and nearby A120 road network. It is fair to say that Walton on the Naze is more than just a beach resort and has much to offer the discerning buyer.
