rnTherapists and Psychologists are discovering that this is a lot easier said than done. It’s not like other addictions- like alcohol- where you can without a doubt identify if someone is sober or not. It’s more like food addiction than anything else. When you try to cure porn, the lines are not so apparent. What does that mean? It means that for the recovering addict who desires to restore to health porn, it’s not simply about never seeing a stripped image again. For the reason that it’s not just about the images. It’s regarding the intense emotions he or she gets when they watch pornography. In fact, it has very little to do with sex. It’s all about the chemical rush that takes place. There was a brain study that took someone who was addicted to cocaine and they showed them a film of someone snorting cocaine while they were wired up to some brain equipment. The motion picture triggered the pleasure centers in their brain. They did this same test with someone who was watching porn, and it fired the same areas of the brain as cocaine. That’s why when you would like to cure porn, it’s not just a black and white line of how someone is doing. They can be deflecting stuff on the internet, but still indulging by watching ordinary movies, or going through the check out aisle at the grocery store. Another challenge is that even though someone may possibly not go back to the old habit, they will have longings to go back. This is often discouraging for the person attempting to cure po , for the reason that they have a yearning to observe it again. The brain gets hooked on those chemicals and on that rush, and when things are stressful, the brain wants to get away. This is where someone who wants to cure po gets into difficulty. They try to circumscribe pornography as nude images. But the truth is that to the recovering addict, it can be many things. It could be a motion picture, a magazine article, a voyage to the beach. Any number of things can trigger the old feelings of wanting the rush. So they start walking this fine line where they do things to get the rush, and they justify and justify the behavior reasoning that it’s not looking at porn. This succeeds for a while, but then they require more and more of the substance, and before they know it, they have relapsed. Only the person in recovery knows how they are doing. Like a food addict, who can be doing just fine ingesting specific types of food, but could be there relapsing on the last bite. It is a very private situation. To know how to beat porn addiction, its critical that the person study from others who have walked this path. It’s almost not possible to do this alone. Most addicts crave to remain unidentified and keep their addiction a secret. But one way or another, they need to reach out for help from other people.
