Although they can seem inevitable with pregnancy, there are a number of ways of preventing stretch marks rather than having to deal with them afterwards.

Healthy Eating

When you are pregnant there are a lot of hormonal changes happening in your body. As well as gaining weight, these can help cause stretch marks. You can help your body cope with hormone imbalances by eating a nutritious diet that contains a lot of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

Weight Control

Of course, you will gain weight through pregnancy but you can still keep a check on how many extra pounds you put on. It's also much better for your baby. It's always worth talking to your doctor to find out what your ideal weight should be.

Keep Hydrated

Another way of preventing stretch marks is to make sure that your skin keeps properly hydrated. If your skin is too dry, then this can accelerate tissue damage and increase the chances of the dermis layer ripping as your stomach grows bigger. Make sure to drink plenty of water and moisturize your skin regularly.

Use Stretch Mark Creams

As well as being used for cures for stretch marks, creams can also be used in preventing stretch marks. This is because one way they work is by preventing proteolytic enzymes from causing scarring to form.
