Given that our life expectancy has gone up and we can expect to live 90+ years we have a 30% chance of developing some kind of cancer in our lifetime. It is not wise to wait for this secretive and slowly nurtured disease to arrive before responding to its challenge. Far too many people are the casualties of such an approach. The conventional medical treatments, as everyone knows strive to treat cancer only after it arrives. It is we who must make the effort at cancer prevention.

In the busy world of today, it is difficult to eat like we should, nor can we eat organic fruits and vegetables all the time. If you can't or don't have access to organic fruits or other sources of antioxidant foods, you should look into nutritional supplements that offer you the phytonutrients you need in your diet.

It is already known that consumption of vegetables and fruits have an important role in reducing risk for heart disease and several types of cancer. People are becoming more aware of the benefits and significance of different nutrients in general, including those of phytonutrients.

No matter how you look at it, healthy eating for your body starts and end with foods that contain antioxidants. There are several types of foods that contain antioxidants, although fruits and vegetables contain the most amounts. Steak and meat are also great sources of antioxidants, along with other great benefits, such as protein.

Even though a lot of people don't actually realize it, a lot of antioxidant foods that we consume are from vegetables. Vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and peppers are all excellent choices with some great benefits for your body.

When consuming vegetables, you should always go for those that are rich in color, as they are high in phytonutrients. Clinical trials are now revealing that phytonutrients can enhance the strength of the immune system, and may play a role in preventing certain cancers.

Research related to phytonutrients is consistently growing. It is only a matter of time until there will be more information linking them to a healthier way of life. They are potent antioxidants that can neutralize free radical damage. Free radicals are highly reactive chemical substances that, if left unchecked, can lead to premature aging and disease.

Antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables are the highest in value and most readily available to us today. But how do we get enough or eat enough to get all we need? That is the tough part, so how about drinking it! Anytime you can't get foods that contain antioxidants - you can count on supplements to deliver the amount you need to stay healthy.

Phytonutrient supplements have inherent advantages over certain fruits and vegetables. Because phytonutrient supplements are only the extract of the pigments -- where the nutrients are especially concentrated -- they are a superior way to derive the best "essence" of fruits and vegetables, without consuming the excess sugars and calories.
