How can we be serious about doing God’s will when we aren’t willing to change? We think every day or once a week at church about getting serious for God and making a difference. We have a revelation that we are going to do better and we are going to be better for God. However, we get caught up in life with the things going on around us and we soon forget we made a commitment to God.

Psalm 51:12-13 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.”

God remembers our commitment to Him. He gives us gentle and, sometimes, strong reminders we should be drawing closer to Him. He tells us through other people our time is short here on earth and He has something He wants us to do. He tells us through His word others have gone their whole lives missing the reason for their lives and we shouldn’t miss our reason.

When we read God’s word or listen to someone reading from the Bible or even when we say our prayers, are we really focusing on God and listening for an answer? If we were, we would possibly hear Him say, “I want to help you but you aren’t acting like you really want My help.” God sees us thinking about other things, hurriedly moving around this earth and talking about how busy we are and how much there is to do.

God tells us He wants to help us with our thoughts about others but He can’t because we are trying to control our thoughts. We are thinking about how others treat us and what we have to do compared to what they are doing and why aren’t they being a better person. We are thinking about what we need to do rather than what God can do through us. We should be thinking and meditating on His word.

God wants to help us with our actions but we are busy doing things that are not in line with His will for us. We are busy running all day doing meaningless activities that aren’t for any purpose other than to give us temporary pleasure. We want to do things to please others and get their approval and, sometimes, forget God is waiting for us to do things that please Him. We should be asking God what actions to take.

God is willing to help us with our words but we are talking about others and complaining about the weather or the situation in the world or the way someone looks at us. We are busy talking about things that aren’t even out of the Bible and wondering about things that aren’t even a conce
to God. We should be asking God to control our tongue.

We can’t be serious about doing God’s will when we can’t even focus on Him during the day. We mindlessly go through the motions of serving Him while we are worrying, gossiping, complaining and thinking about how busy we are. God wants us to be still. God wants us to think of Him. God wants us to share His word in our actions and our words.

We have to be careful we aren’t getting distracted daily and forgetting how powerful and how wonderful God is. He wants what is best for us and He wants us to spend time with Him. He can help us with our thoughts, our actions and our words. He can help us only if we are willing to be helped. He can work through us only if we are willing to be used. He can help us make a difference that only He can make but we have to be willing. Restore us and help us, God, to be willing to obey and serve You.
