The Internet Advertsing Bureau (IAB) released figures showing that of the total £1.75bn spent on internet advertising, £1.05bn, or 60%, was spent on search engine marketing on websites, companies who offer a Pay per click system of advertising, such as google, yahoo and bing.

The internet has managed to surpass the TV advertising earlier than expected, due to a fall in TV ad revenues by 17% year on year. The search engine Google has been the main beneficiary of the online marketing Boom, taking a lions share of all search marketing spends.

The breakdown of the facts show that Online classified advertising grew by 10.6% year on year to £385m,But online display advertising, such as banners fell by 5.2% year on year, to £316.5m.

Some say that the market in Advertising online has peaked, however Social Media Sites Facebook and Myspace are preparing to make an impact, there may yet be room for growth!
