Networking has many valuable benefits which build on but also go beyond the familiar word of mouth. The agile networker can also find new sources of support, ways to connect and share information, increased financial resources and other ways to build toward specific goals.

Opportunities abound for networking online. It makes sense that the more ways you can connect with people who have similar interests and goals, the more likely you will find that you are discovering solutions for shared problems. The more online networking skills you build the faster and easier it will be for you to access this tremendous support lifeline.

For example, you may benefit from comparing and discussing legal or regulatory developments, staff training, supplier sources or customer retention. It could even work out that your network is one which shares services with one another. This could have financial benefits such as reduced fees, product discounts and employee job-sharing.

The degree to which you benefit is directly dependent upon the skill you use in seeking out complementary partnerships. You may be reluctant to seek advice or get help for fear of being embarrassed. Progress always involves risk. On the other hand you may worry that networking could give a competitor an opportunity to take advantage of information you share with prospects. At the end of the day, the benefits of taking an active role usually outweigh the potential dangers.

If you're nervous, you might prefer a formal network where there is an administrator who coordinates activities and events. Bylaws are enforced in such a group and usually there are membership fees which are collected annually.

WHY WEB NETWORKING?

You probably checked this article out because you already know four biggest benefits of web networking:

* It is a way to make crucial connections and alliances by having them find you.
* Make the best use of your time by linking to the 24-7 activity of cyberspace
* Almost limitless sourcing for peers, mentors, businesses and associations that have similar interests to yours.
* Strengthen and build support for your products and services.

WEB NETWORKING IS THE SAME BUT WITH A DIFFERENT SPIN

All the strategies you use in face-to-face networking are used on the internet and for the same reasons.

You've got to know who you are and what your strengths and weaknesses are so that you can respond quickly to opportunities that are presented. The way you position yourself is up for scrutiny, judgment and potential acceptance or rejection. Make sure you are professional in every aspect. Be ready to move quickly - or somebody else will. In every instance, act with courtesy and, above all else, provide great customer service.

TWO WAYS TO PULL YOUR WEB TOGETHER

1. Create an Online Presence: Set up a website featuring an easy means of contacting you. You probably already realize that a very large proportion of business is now conducted online. A first step for most people when looking for expertise, a service or a product is to go online and conduct their own research. This is not a maybe step it is a must.
2. Join Social Networks Online: There are numerous excellent sites to join. If you haven`t already joined, take a look at Facebook, YouTube, and My Space. Remember your goals and you will find the one that catches your interest and meets your needs. Don`t overlook common interest groups and forums. In the same way that you find small degrees of separation in face-to-face networking, you will be amazed at the links you can establish through social networks.

YOUR CORNER OF THE WEB

Modern business dictates that networking is a key ingredient. You can't ignore web networking as a vital aspect of growing your business. Online everyone has the same opportunity to reach out effectively. Use it to your advantage and web networking could provide the perfect customer pull you were looking for.
