From the total amount of calories required for daily consumption, 55% should come from carbohydrates, 15% from protein and 30% from fat and oil, with no more than 10% of fat coming from saturated forms. For example a weight loss diet containing 1200 calorie would supply 660 calories from carbohydrates, 180 from protein, and 360 from fat. Studies shows that increased protein consumption help to ease hunger caused by reduced caloric intake by increasing the feeling of satiety. Caloric restriction has many long-term benefits on weight loss. After reaching the desired body weight, calories consumed per day may be increased gradually, without crossing 2,000 net (i.e. burned calories from exercise minus consumed calories). Combined with increased physical activities, low calorie diets are thought to be most effective on weight loss in the long-run, unlike crash diets, which can achieve short-term results or weight loss, at best.
