Is it possible to eat mayonnaise, fatty meat steak and lose weight at the same time? Keto diet answers this question in the affirmative.

Initially, the ketogenic diet was used to treat epilepsy attacks, then an unusual menu attracted the attention of athletes and losing weight. What are the features of this method and to whom the diet is absolutely contraindicated - let's understand.

Principles of keto diet

The keto-diet, also ketogenic, is based on the consumption of fats, proteins and the minimum amount of carbohydrates. In the original version of keto, which was used to treat epilepsy, mainly in children, the ratio of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates was 4: 1: 1. In the options for weight loss, the proportions have slightly changed in the direction of increasing proteins.

The essence of keto-diet is to bring and keep the body in a state of ketosis. The main source of energy for the body are carbohydrates, which are converted into glucose and tend to accumulate in muscle tissue and liver.

When carbohydrate deficiency, the body consumes glycogen reserve, and then as a source of energy begins to use fat reserves, splits fat cells, which in turn produce ketone bodies. It is ketone that serves as a source of energy for the brain and other organs. The process can occur only if the amount of carbohydrates consumed per bitch does not exceed 100 g.

The ketogenic diet has much in common with the low carb diet. The latter also reduces the consumption of carbohydrates, but their number exceeds 100 g and the process of ketosis does not occur.

What happens to a person during a keto diet

Carbohydrate fasting

Without recharge, glucose reserves last for 8-9 hours. After this time, a person feels a strong hunger, but the body does not yet experience any inconvenience.

The consumption of glycogen reserves is the most difficult period of the diet. As a rule, the body needs 1-3 days to exhaust the entire stock.

A person feels incessant hunger, which even fats and proteins cannot satisfy. This is the feeling when you feel hungry with a full stomach.

Thoughts about sweets, increased sweating, salivation, aching pain in the liver, stomach, dizziness, nausea, irritability, increased susceptibility to odors, fatigue pursue for 3 days.

Gluconeogenic

The body splits into glucose all the compounds available to it, down to the protein. This period is characterized by loss of muscle tissue and a decrease in internal organs. The process lasts one week.
