Losing weight can be a challenge, but it is not impossible. It can be a very inspiring goal to achieve in your life. When you’re overweight and don’t feel good about yourself, it can affect your mood and self-esteem on a daily basis. In college, I was determined to really focus on my health and wanted to lose weight. I was tired of not being the person I knew that I could be. So, I began my fitness journey changing my diet and sticking to a workout plan. Six months later, I had lost 55 pounds and really changed all aspects of my life.
This article was written to help those who are ready to lose weight the healthy way from somebody who’s been there. It’s not an easy task, but I know you'll have fun while doing it.
1. Stick to the Basics and What Works
I’m a firm believe
in this concept. I’m not a fan of fad diets at all. There is always a new way to lose weight. What about the old way? Fruits and vegetables, exercise, cutting back on the fast food, and eating more health meals such as soups and salads. Instead of focusing on new weight loss products, stick to the basics and incorporate therapies such as mind body exercises or acupuncture. Switch it up if you get bored, there are tons of different meals and workouts you can do to keep yourself motivated!
2. Tell People About Your Goalsr
You’ll be amazed at who will be willing to help you achieve your goals. Let your family and friends know so that they can support you, and who knows, you might even gain a few workout buddies. There are many healthcare and fitness professionals available to help you, and the money spent on your health will comeback ten-fold.
3. Understand It’s a Processr
It took some time to put on the weight, and now it is going to take time to take it off. Weight loss is a transformation process, and through process it’s important to realize that it’s all you, nobody else but you. So when you hit your goal weight, you can say to yourself “I did this”, or “I can’t believe I hit my goal weight”. Try not to lose more than 1- 2lbs a week, otherwise you’re more likely to put the weight back on.
4. Track Your Habitsr
There are a few weight loss goal trackers and ways to measure your progress either in a written journal or online. I used one from fitday.com over 10 years ago and the site is still being used today. You can track your calorie intake, carbs, fats, proteins, your workout and calories burned on average. Then you are able to look at the data weekly and monthly to observe any trends in your eating habits.
You can do it. Put in the hard work, appreciate your life, and love yourself no matter if you’re in shape or not. Lastly, always stay positive!
Remember to consult with you primary healthcare provider before starting any health or weight loss regimen.
