I did not just wake up one day and had all this fat, so what happened?
The USA is the fattest nation on the earth because they eat in excess of 550 calories every day.
Foods that makes us fat are usually the food group we eat and like the most.
Other snack foods that are fattening are potato chips, fries and similar foods, please avoid them.

Eating a good healthy breakfast before 8 AM is essential and your breakfast should be the largest meal of the day. Lunch at no later than 1 PM and dinner no later than 6:30 PM or at least 3 1/2 hours before you go to bed. These are the basic to live by.
One of the habits you will have to change if diet is to be achieved is eating dinner late at nights right before going to bed. This food will remain undigested in your system until the next morning. because of this you might not feel as hungry first thing in the morning so you are more prone to skip breakfast, then by lunch you are going to be starving so you might be more lightly to overeat. This cycle will continue as you gain more and more weight
Increase the frequency or your meals from three large meals to 5 or 6 smaller size meals a day.
No lifestyle change can be complete without some form of workout.
