When fitting out a new work space it is important to look beyond the standard furniture choices, particularly when it comes to office chairs. Chair designs have developed significantly as offices and working practices have changed over the years. These days almost every office worker sits at a computer or a laptop for most of the working day, putting particular strains on their body which need to be compensated for by the office chair they use. Specialised office chairs offer the advantage of a more comfortable working day for employees as they fit to their specific purpose in the workplace.
- For Ergonomics: Although the advent of high-powered laptops are making working practices more mobile, the vast majority of employees spend most of their time sitting at one workstation, making ergonomically designed office chairs a necessity in all workplaces. Office chairs that encourage correct posture not only prevent chronic pain but also provide long-term health benefits for the worker. Office chairs need to be chosen with regard to the typical tasks undertaken by the user throughout the day, whether this includes working with multiple screens in an individual workstation, or working at a reception desk in a public area.
- For Different Users: Corporate workers do not come in a generic shape or size, so there is no point fitting out the workplace with generic or standard official chairs. Some models of specialised task chairs can be adjusted and modified in a manner of different ways to make the working day as comfortable as possible for employees. Office chairs are also available to accommodate different body types, with different foam densities and proportional structures used to support employees of different weights, ensuring that all employees are equally protected from workplace injuries. For users with pre-existing back injuries specialised chairs which alleviate additional physical stress can be purchased.
- For Different Workplaces: As hinted above, not all occupations use their office chairs in the same way. In some workplaces, such as call centres, all of the furniture needs to be suited to heavy duty use. In these cases office chairs need to provide extensive ergonomic support as the worker may need to remain seated for hours at a time. In other workplaces office chairs may be used only lightly as the worker alternates between interacting face to face with customers and working at a computer screen. An office chair used by a receptionist, for example, needs to be highly mobile, comfortable, and allow a wide range of movement.
Office chairs designed for specific tasks and specific users can improve comfort for every one of your employees.
