A fracture can be defined as a break usually in a bone. If the bone ruptures the skin as well, it is known as compound fracture. A fracture may be due to a car accident, falls and injuries. Other causes are low bone density and osterioporosis. Overuse of any bone can cause stress fractures. Different Types of FracturesrnBased on the nature of fracture, there are different types of fracture. Here is the list of different type of fractures-rn1.Partial Fracture - As the name suggests, partial fracture is an incomplete break in the bone. Some of the examples are greenstick fracture or hairline fracture.rn2.Complete fracture - This fractures denotes breaking of bone in two or more pieces.rn3.Closed Farcture – These fractures are also known as open fractures. In this fracture the bone does not penetrate through the skin.rn4.Open Farcture – These are also known as compound fractures. In this fracture a part of bone may peneterate through the skin. It is of two types. Fracture from within out and within in.rn1. Within Out – In this the skin is broken by bone protruding outside .rn2. Within In – In this the skin is first broken by trauma. Classification of FracturesrnFurther classification of fractures are as follows-rn1.Simple Fracture - A simple fracture is defined as a clean break in the bone and does not peneterate through the skin. There are further sub classifications in simple fractures – rn1. Simple Oblique Fracture – Here the break is at an angle of 30 degree or more along the long axis of the bone.rn2. Simple Spiral Fracture – It is the line of fracture spirals around bone. It can be due to the torsinal forces.rn3. Simple Transverse Fractures – These fractures are about 90 degree on the long axis of the bone. These are also known as chalkstick fractures. 2.Greenstick Fracture – A greenstick fracture is defined as incomplete break in the bone. But, the part of outer shell remains intact. It is more likely to occur in children who are more flexible than the adults. The recovery is comparatively quick in case of Greenstick Fractures. 3.Comminuted Fracture – It is breaking of bone into more than two pieces. It is aldo known as multifragmentary fracture. There are further sub classification in these types-rn1. Spiral Wedge Fracture- It is because of torsinal forces.rn2. Complex Spiral Fracture- It has more than one spiral element.rn3. Bending Wedge Fracture- It is due to direct and indirect violence.rn4. Complex segmental Fracture- It has one complete section of bone.rn5. Complex Irregular Fracture- In this the bone between main section of the bone is broken into many pieces. 4.Impacted Fracture – It is the loss of continuity in the structure of the bones. This menas the break in the bone is driven to the another. 5.Complicated Fracture – It is a broken bone that has damaged the surrounding organs. 6.Hairline Fracture – It is a result of the inefficient trauma that is able to make movements between the fragments of bone. It is difficult to identify the damage. It is also referred to a crack. 7.Compression Fracture – It is a fracture in the cancellous bone which is compressed by a force larger than the bone can withstand. It is of two types-rn1. Compression of Verebrae - It is due to excessive compression.rn2. Compression of heel bone- It is due to a fall from height. 8.Fatigue Fracture - It is a result of constant mechanical stresses on the bone. 9.Pathological Fracture – It is defined as a break in the bone when the bone is itself diseased or abnormal. rnTherefore, one should consult the orthopedics .
