What are the different types of Covid tests?

Across the world, the coronavirus has taken many lives, but thanks to science and research we have a successful vaccine rolling out. But vaccinations alone aren’t enough to stop the virus. We need to be regularly testing to know that we are safe. There are a few different types of tests you can take: Antibody testrnAntigen testrnPCR test Antigen: Antigen tests are nasal swabs. The test is performed using a lateral flow device, this test detects proteins called 'antigens' produced by the virus. Testing can be carried out both onsite at one of Rapid Testing Centres COVID secure facilities or in the comfort of your own home. This test is applicable for those that require testing for international travel, work, or similar purposes. Antibody: Antibody testing is designed for people who suspect that they may have been previously infected with the COVID virus. Most patients that have had the virus previously have been found to produce the IgG antibody. An antibody test should be carried out fourteen days or more following exposure or onset of symptoms. For the most part, those who have already had coronavirus, or who have had both their vaccine shots, “should” have the antibodies. To be sure, you can book an antibody test to find out. PCR: A PCR test, otherwise known as a polymerase chain reaction test, checks for the genetic material (RNA) of the virus in the sample. Then we send the sample for processing at a lab. The test will confirm if an individual who is showing symptoms of the virus currently has it. This test is applicable for those that require testing for international travel, work, or similar purposes.
