There are three most common types of stroke: transient ischemic attack, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke. It is estimated that 87 percent of strokes are ischemic. rnTransient ischemic attackrnDoctors also call a transient ischemic attack (TIA) a warning or a coup. Anything that temporarily blocks the flow of blood to your brain causes a TIA. rnIschemic strokernAn ischemic stroke occurs when a blood clot prevents blood from flowing to your brain. The blood clot is often due to atherosclerosis, which is an accumulation of fat deposits in the inner lining of a blood vessel. A portion of these fat deposits can detach and block the flow of blood in your brain. The concept is similar to that of a heart attack, where a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to a part of your heart. An ischemic stroke can be embolic, which means that the blood clot travels from another part of your body to your brain. It is estimated that 15 percent of embolic strokes are due to a condition called atrial fibrillation, where the heart beats irregularly. A thrombotic stroke is an ischemic stroke caused by the formation of a clot in a blood vessel in your brain. Unlike a TIA, the blood clot that causes an ischemic stroke does not go away without treatment. Hemorrhagic infarctionrnA hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel in your brain breaks or breaks, spilling blood into the surrounding tissues. rnThe major types of hemorrhagic strokes: the first is an aneurysm, which causes a part of the weakened blood vessel to swell outward and, sometimes, rupture. The other is an arteriovenous malformation, which involves abnormally formed blood vessels. If the blood vessel ruptures, it can cause a hemorrhagic stroke. Finally, very high blood pressure can cause the weakening of small blood vessels in the brain and cause bleeding in the brain as well. rnWhat complications can a stroke cause?  It can have life-threatening consequences. The brain controls the main functions of human life. Without the flow of blood, your brain can not control your breathing, blood pressure and much more. Complications may vary depending on the type of stroke and if you can receive successful treatment. Examples of complications include: Behavioral changes: Having a stroke can contribute to depression or anxiety. You may also experience changes in your behavior, such as being more impulsive or more withdrawn from socializing with others. Speech difficulties: A stroke can affect areas of the brain related to speech and swallowing. As a result, you may have difficulty reading, writing or understanding other people when they are talking. causes of pain: A stroke can cause pain and down sensation in parts of the body. This can be painful. Sometimes, injuries to the brain can also affect your ability to sense temperature.  Paralysis: Due to the way your brain works to direct movement, a blow to the right side of your brain can affect movement on the left side of your body and vice versa. Those who have had a stroke can not use facial muscles or move an arm on one side. You may be able to regain lost motor function, speech or the ability to swallow after a stroke during rehabilitation. However, these may take time to recover.
