Best dentist anchorage for cosmetic procedures and other procedures. Any dentist can fix teeth but it takes a cosmetic dentist to bring out the beauty of your individual smile. So lets begin with the different kinds of procedures there are to improve your smile. Bleaching To whiten your teeth you can use gels, trays or white strips. There are also new techniques with the laser. Bleaching - This is a whitening procedure that can be done on natural teeth. It consists of placing gel into clear trays and then wearing the trays for awhile. The gel held next to the teeth will whiten them. People buy them because it is a good way to make your teeth lighter. However, the gel in the drug store is much weaker than the type in the dental office. So although you won't pay as much to get the kit if you get the kind from the store you will have to pay several times the difference for the same results. Having it done by a professional is also a good idea. Or you might end up with patchy uneven bleaching. Lasers - This newer type of bleaching is done in one afternoon in the dental office. First, your teeth are cleaned so that no residue is there. Then you are draped and fitted with an expander. It will pull your cheeks out that that they won't be touched by the laser. A special opague gel is painted on and it hardens to protect tender tissues. Special glasses are given to the patient to wear. Now a clearish gel is painted on the natural teeth. The laser is turned on and moved over the teeth. This sweeping motion is done for a few minutes and then the patient rests. It can be repeated a few times that day to get the best results. Veneers - Veneers are thin pure porcelain shells that are bonded to your teeth. They can cover many flaws such as chips, stains or broken teeth. There are two types of veneers. They can also be made of composite resin in layers on the tooth. * Composite resin veneers that are made in the dental office using the white composite resins. Now this can go very well depending on the dentists skills. Do ask to see the before and after photos for this procedure before going ahead. Composite resin material is bonded with a light to the surface of your teeth. They will last about five years or so with care. They are much less expensive and can be fixed right in the office which is part of their appeal. * Porcelain veneers are made of pure porcelain. They do not absorb stains so they wear well. If repairs are needed they will usually have to be done in a laboratory by ordering a new veneer. Unless you have the newest version of the veneer. It is made in the office by the dentist. Today Cerec crowns and veneers are made in very little time. They will match perfectly in fit and color. They are made of pure porcelain and has the translucency of natural teeth. Tooth Fillings You have a cavity so now there are decisions to be made. No longer is amalgam used routinely in the dental field. They found that it was to dangerous. It contains a high amount of mercury that can leach into your blood stream. So now they use composite resin to fill teeth. It is a plastic like material that can be shaped and then hardened with a special light. It comes in many colors to match your teeth. When it is there no one will be able to tell that you had a cavity. If the cavity is large enough then ask about inlays and onlays. These are just a fancy way of saying they take out a section of the enamel because of decay and replace it with the same sized piece of porcelain. They usually bond these in with impressive results. With the new Cerec machine these get easier and easier. There are many new advances in dentistry that you should ask about. These are a a few of them.
