According to the expert’s research, anxiety disorder is one of the most common psychological disorders in America. However, the expert is unable to determine the exact cause for the social anxiety disorder. Based on the information that the expert gathered, there are 3 different theories on how a person can develop a social anxiety disorder, although none of them is scientific proven. Even so, it is worth reading as it may help you to understand more about this disorder. Here are the three possible reasons: Our life experiences, our genes, and our brain. 1) Life experience Let’s focus on the life experience first. According to the psychologist’s data, there is a high possibility for someone, especially a child to develop a social phobia from learning or watching others. There are 3 types of learned behavior situation that a child may face. - Direct conditioning: It is very easy for a child to develop a social anxiety disorder. All the unpleasant or bad things that a child are experiencing can be a permanent mental scar, and this will become a problem when the child enter the adolescent stage. - Observational Learning: Instead of experiencing the bad things on his own, the child can develop this disorder, by simply observing at someone. His mind will instinctively try to protect himself from being the potential victims. He will keep imagining that he got embarrassed or laughed by other kids, and this will lead him to cut the ties off from other kids. - Information Transfer: Parenting also plays a role for child’s social anxiety development, although it is not directly. The fearful or over-protective parent will transfer their verbal and non-verbal information about dangers of social scenarios to their child indirectly through their action. 2) Our Genes It is possible for a parent with anxiety records to inherit certain behavioral inhibition to their child. This means that the child may inherit or awaken this disorder at very young age. At toddler stage, the very same child will be acting shy, quiet and cautious on everything. This becomes complicated when they reach the teenager stage. Any unpleasant or bad events that they are going to experience will become the permanent trigger of social anxiety symptoms for them. 3) Our brain Our brain is the key of our every movement. Our brain gives out the command or signal for our body to react. When you are in danger or stressed, our brain will decide whether you should fight the situation or run away. This is a natural self-defense mechanism that everyone has. However, this become a problem when your brain show a greater activity and respond than a normal person. Greater activity means that it is easier for you to feel anxious or nervous in a certain situation, even if you are not in danger. Many people do not know that this anxiety disorder can be treated with the help of medication or undergo a therapy session. If you are not sure which treatment to go for, you can ask help from the doctor. They will run diagnose on your disorder and will recommend a suitable treatment option for you.
