A skin tag can pop up on many different places on the body including the armpits, the eyelids and even the groin area where skin folds can commonly be found. If you have just now noticed a tag somewhere on your body you may be a bit freaked out at first and be concerned with what this could mean.
If you do have legitimate concerns than do no hesitate to speak with your doctor. Just point the problem out and ask any questions you might have about complications in the future. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that in most cases these skin tags are actually benign and never cause any problems. In some cases, however, they can be in areas that cause irritation but this doesn't mean they are cancerous either.
These small blemishes come directly from the root stalk of cells that have grown to the outside of the skin. They are much different than a mole where the group of cells is flatter. They can grow to be rather large, but typically aren't seen any bigger than the size of a golf ball.
Removing them in a clinical setting is fairly simple and straightforward, in some cases not even requiring the use of an anesthetic. These types of things will all be determined based on the size and location of the tag of course.
A skin tag can show up at just about any time during your life. Some experience them from birth and others don't notice them until they are well into their 60's. They do, however, seem to appear more frequently during middle age. Tags that appears on the face or in areas that will be rubbed by undergarments tend to be the most irritating as well and are sometimes very uncomfortable.
As mentioned before, most tags are benign in nature but this doesn't mean you shouldn't bring it to the attention of your family physician. Once your doctor is aware of the issue and knows what your concerns are you can work together to decide what to do next. Keep in mind that if the tag appears in an area that doesn't cause irritation it is simply considered a cosmetic procedure. When this is the case many health insurance plans will not cover the cost of the removal. It is these such situations where you may want to seek out other means of removal that will be cheaper on your wallet.
There are actually several different options when it comes to removal of skin tags. The options available to you will of course depend on size and other factors though. Beyond medical procedures like cryosurgery, ligation, excision and cauterization there is also several home methods and products that can be used as well.
Research all the available removal options you have before you rush to a decision with this. This is even more so true when you do not have insurance to pay for a removal procedure. Taken care of things at home can be much cheaper and often it is the better approach to finding a solution for the problem.
