A factoring broker is a relatively new concept to most business people. However, it is important, if you are in business, to understand what a factoring broker is and how they could potentially help your business. A factoring broker can help you to sweat your assets to generate cash as and when your business needs it.
In the current economic climate, more companies are having issues with cash flow and are going out of business, as a result. This is partly due to the fact people are not paying their suppliers on time. However, it is mostly due to the fact that companies can no longer rely on borrowing money from banks and other financial institutions.
What a Factoring Broker Can do for You
This kind of broker uses the money that you are waiting for from invoices as collateral for their loans. This means that if a client owes you money you can borrow against the amount that they owe you. A broker will check the creditworthiness of those that owe you money and will then give you a loan that is a percentage of that amount. When you are paid the invoice, they take what they are owed plus interest and fees and give you the balance.
Who Uses Factoring Brokers?
Any type of business could potentially use this kind of broker. In fact, many very large in businesses including multinationals already use them on a regular basis. They do so to raise money for development and to spread risk. However, increasingly smaller businesses are turning to this kind of broker to help them with their finances. Most brokers only lend to well-established businesses with a turnover of several hundred thousands of pounds. They usually require a company to demonstrate that they are profitable and that they have proper credit control processes in place.
Many factoring brokers have additional skills. This means that if they cannot help you to raise money for your business using your invoices they may be able to do so in another way. They usually offer services such as borrowing money against your equipment or other assets.
