Causes of Allergy
An allergy occurs when a person’s immune system over-reacts to substances — called an allergen — in the environment. These allergens are found in house dust mites, pets, pollen, foods, drugs, insect stings, latex and moulds. An allergen for one person may not be a problem for another person, and everyone reacts differently.
Allergies are caused by a complex combination of influences. The detrimental effects of lingering pathogenic factors (LPFs) on everyone's health cannot be overestimated. In order to understand allergies, LPFs must be considered one of the most powerful influences.
Genetic or environmental factors can cause a Th2 dominated response to develop which can lead to allergies.
Hereditary is the main cause of allergy. If parents have affected by allergy then children may also affected by it. But it is not necessary that you will definitely get it. Foods that people are most commonly allergic to are milk and other dairy products, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts and tree nuts, and seafood.
Types of Allergy
Poison Ivy and plant allergies- Many people think poison ivy is contagious.
Eczema- This itchy skin rash, common in children and infants, affects some people all their lives.
Antihistamines -- As the name implies, antihistamines counter the effects of histamine released during an allergic reaction. They are widely used to treat many allergy-related conditions. They are often combined with decongestants and are available in a variety of over-the-counter formulas (e.g., Actifed, Benadryl, Contac, Drixoral, Tavist-D, Triaminic) and by prescription (e.g., Allegra, Clarinex, Zyrtec). Antihistamine nasal sprays are also available to treat allergic rhinitis (e.g., Astelin). Antihistamine eye drops may also be used for quick relief of itchy eyes associated with allergies (e.g., Naphcon-A).nnperennial allergic rhinitis -, indoor allergies are often called "nasal" allergies and result from allergens commonly found indoors. They are inhaled into the nose and the lungs causing allergic reactions. Examples of indoor allergens include airborne cat or dog dander, dust mite feces and mold spores.
Treatment for Allergy
1) Although food allergies as a trigger for a runny nose is not common, if you notice that your child's allergy symptoms always get worse after being exposed to certain foods, then you should avoid those foods. The most common foods that can cause problems include: milk, eggs (especially egg yolks), peanuts, soybeans, tree nuts, seafood, and wheat.
2) Immunotherapy is a type of treatment for allergic children with hay fever and/or asthma. It is also called desensitization, hyposensitization, and allergy shots. A mixture of the various pollens, mold spores, animal danders, and dust mites to which the child is allergic is formulated. This mixture is called an allergy extract. This extract contains no medication such as antihistamines or corticosteroids.
3) At least once every week, wash your sheets in very hot water. The water should be at least 130°F. If your bedding is made of fabrics that cannot be washed in hot water, you can put it in the freezer for one to two days, which will effectively kill dust mites. Every 2 to 4 weeks, you should also wash blankets and mattress pads.
4) Always vacuum beneath your bed and mattress. Damp mop any hard flooring and use a damp rag to dust. Sweeping a dry floor may only stir up dust and allergens.
