Aromatherapy is derived from the ancient practice of using natural plant essences to promote health and well-being. It consists of the use of pure essential oils obtained from a wide assortment of plants, which have been steam distilled or cold-pressed from flowers, fruit, bark and roots. The oils may be applied topically (i.e., diluted and applied to the skin via massage), or by inhalation. The most appropriate method of application will be determined by the goal sought. Relief from sore aching muscles is best achieved by topical application or use in a bath, while relief from bronchial congestion is best achieved via inhalation.

Aromatherapy can help ease a wide assortment of ailments; easing aches, pains, and injuries, while relieving the discomforts of many health problems. Aromatherapy also acts on the central nervous system, relieving depression and anxiety, reducing stress, relaxing, uplifting, sedating or stimulating, restoring both physical and emotional well-being.

Using essential oils safely and appropriately can have powerful results, both on the body and the spirit. "Fragrance Oils", "Perfumes" and other artificially made substitutes for Pure Essential Oils can not produce these amazing results. Essential Oils are truly Nature’s Gift to us.

You might ask, “Does aromatherapy really work?” The answer is, “YES”! Pure Essential Oils are prescribed in Great Britain and throughout Europe for their medicinal benefits. Modern scientific research has proven the potency and healing qualities of Pure Essential Oils. Many of the oils have powerful antibacterial and anti-viral properties which, unlike pharmaceutical drugs, do not expose us to dangerous toxins.

Intrigued? Want to try some of these wonderful oils? The first recommendation would be to educate your self. Put yourself in the hands of someone knowledgeable in the field, either locally, if possible, or if not, through the library and the Internet. Read everything you can about the oils and their effects, and don't be afraid to experiment.

To start with, many of us first tried Lavender. Lavender essential oil is a virtual 'first aid' cabinet in and of itself. A touch of Lavender essential oil on the temples and back of the neck can ease a headache. A drop of Lavender can soothe and help heal a minor burn. It is a potent antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral agent. It's also one of the less expensive oils.
Your nose is really your best guide to which oils will work best for you.

I'm firmly convinced that we are drawn to the oils that our bodies need, either mentally/emotionally or physically. Trust your nose, but educate yourself on the safe and effective uses of the oils you select.
"Okay," you ask, "I want to try some of this stuff. How do I get started?” There are many commonly available books about aromatherapy, such as my own “Essential Oils & Aromatics,” which can offer a wealth of information for the newcomer to aromatherapy. Professional organizations in the industry, such as NAHA (The National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy) provide further information about aromatherapy.
