What is Ergonomic Sitting?
Ergonomics is the relationship between the person, the tools or equipment and the environment within which the equipment is being used. The most important part of this relationship is how the human relates to the equipment in the environment.
The environment may be an office, a kitchen or a garage environment. It largely depends on where the chair is being used, but your body will be the same in any environment. Ergonomic studies the relationship between each of the component, for making safety the key factor.
The environment has to be safe for positioning the chair. The chair has to be in a safe location in the environment. The chair also has to be safe for the human to be sitting in for safe performance.
The most important part of ergonomic is how the human fits with the triangle for making the relationship equitable and safe. To be part of the relationship, the human needs to understand the meaning of ergonomic sitting, so that the relationship is ergonomic relationship is created.
To sit ergonomically means to sit in a relaxed sitting position. This is the neutral position for the spine, so that the spinal muscles are relaxed for performing task-related work. I call this position 'the relaxed hold'; because the spinal vertebrae are safely locked on top of each other in a vertical position. You can sit in this position without any support, like you do when riding a bicycle. It is the safest position for your spine and you can sit in this position for as long as you want.
To sit with your spine in a neutral position, you need to first need to sit on your pelvic bones. To do this, you need to lean back, so that you can feel your body weight on your pelvic bones. To test that you are sitting on your pelvic bones, you should be able to lift one leg and then the other, without it affecting the balance in the spine.
This is your position for ergonomic sitting. You will not see anything about ergonomic sitting on the internet, except if you want to buy a product to help you sit ergonomically.
Trust my knowledge, as you do not need to buy anything for ergonomic sitting. Your body can create the position, as long as you are aware of how to position yourself, for correct ergonomic sitting.
