Seeing children play in the garden made me nostalgic for swinging on the swings, sliding on the slides, making sand castles, playing hide and seek, jumping ropes, running, falling, hurting knees, injuring elbows, blaming, fighting, then doing homework, and as Dad returns, jumping around the dining table, with giggles and chuckles and laughter in air, hungry stomachs relishing Mama’s tasty dishes, and daily highlights being discussed by each one in pairs. Finally lights go off, all go to bed, and rise early, next day morning, with a question in mind, ‘what do I do to be happy today?’ If, while a kid, someone were to ask me, ‘what is your purpose in life?’ it would take me no time to say, “Happiness!” And now, when it’s long, long years past my childhood today, as you ask me, “What is your purpose in life?”, I notice the voice inside me uttering the same words, i.e. “Happiness!”; just that the tone is much more matured now, and the definition of happiness has changed altogether (will talk about that in a while)! The End Purpose for Everyone, In Everything They Do is “Happiness!” rnWe work hard to score high grades in exam, thinking ‘high grades will make me happy’; try to secure employment in the best company around, thinking ‘this job will make me very happy’; hunt for the best life partner so that ‘with him / her I can live happily’; even while venturing out an adventurous trek with friends, the motive behind is to experience happiness! In anything that you do, there are two ways of doing it:rnFor instance, when you are working hard for your entrance exam,rn1.You do it with a condition that if I get through the entrance, I am happy, or else not, or rn2.You are happy learning new things while studying the curricula for your entrance exam. I was following the first way. So, at every instance of life, I had a condition, which when fulfilled, I became happy. But for how long?... rnThe moments of success and achievement give us good satisfaction and pleasure; but they don’t stay forever. So, we keep slogging again and again, in the hope that luck permit, I may become happy yet again… This is not life! There is no meaningful purpose in leading such life, for what do you derive out of it – only struggle, stress, anxiety and pain? It was then that Pujya Deepakbhai entered in my life. When asked, what is the purpose in life, He replied, “The purpose of life is to know our Soul. The ultimate goal of everyone’s life is to know, ‘Who am I?’ And if for some reason, one cannot attain Self-Realization, then our mind, body and speech should be used in the service of mankind.” He asked, “Does a tree eat its own mango or it gives it to others? A tree gives its fruits, shadow, wood, etc. to others. Similarly, when we give our fruits for the good of mankind, then we remain happy.” rnThis changed my complete outlook towards life!rnI realized that I have yet to know ‘who am I’ and understand ‘what is the real purpose in life’. Pujya Deepakbhai’s talk appealed to me, and I decided to study what is His purpose in life. Happiness Is Certainly the Purpose in Life; The Permanent Happiness Should Be Way of Life All day long, we continue to suffer sweet or bitter fruits of our past deeds. Sweet fruits bring happiness, while bitter yield unhappiness. When one gets beaten and bashed around amidst these facts of life, the inner suffering makes one look for liberation. Gnani suggests, you ought to devoutly contemplate about the destination you want to reach, or else you may disembark at another station! The purpose in life should be to attain the ultimate goal to experience Pure Soul. This is obtained as a result of Gnani’s grace! And in any activity that you do in life, your purpose should be only this much, 'To use whatever skill/knowledge I know for the intent of serving others.’ If the purpose is that of serving others, you will definitely receive wealth, as a 'by-product'. Soul too can be achieved when we are living for welfare of others, without having any selfish interest therein. To conclude: rnThere are two ways to realize the life’s goal. ●If you have not met a Gnani, then you should live life in such a way, that you hurt no one and you be of help to others. ●And if you happen to meet Gnani, then you should attain Self-Realization and remain in Gnani’s company. In doing so, your purpose in life will be accomplished. All the 'puzzles' will be solved. Please visit https://www.dadabhagwan.org/discover-happiness/
