What Is Love?

Do you really know what love is? Many of us were taught what love means by the actions of the adults in our lives. Some parents displayed love openly, while others might have shown little or no affection at all. Is love a kiss, a hug, or something much deeper than this? We grew up in a time period when love meant longevity, marriages lasted a long time. They still do, but you hear a lot more about couples divorcing nowadays.
You have to learn and create what loves means to you. Is love lasting? Yes, it can be if you want it to be. Love means many different things; friendship, honor, trust, sacrifice, hard times, good times, and respect. These simple principals apply to all types of love; best friends, children, parents, partners, etc.
You will always have love around you, some days you might have to look a little harder to find it, but it’s always there. If you didn’t experience love as a child, you have to define what it means to you. You can change it to suit your needs for that moment, that day, or a lifetime.
Love grows, it changes. What worked for you as a teenager might not be the same as an adult. You make it what it is, and if it is not working for you, change your definition of what love means to you.
Love shouldn’t hurt; it should lift you up to new levels. Love is a two way street, sharing all new experiences and going through life with an ease of knowing that you are loved. Love should be treasured, respected and reciprocated.
Love is a bond of closeness and when that closeness is broken, by separation; your heart still holds a special place where that love once was. Learn from it. Do you seek the same qualities in your next mate or friend? Or, do you want the opposite? What was it about that person that made you love them?
Love like all things in life, is a lesson. Not only do we love others, we teach them how to love us as well. Love is keeping, and releasing. May you love and not be afraid of getting your heart broken. You don’t want to miss out on the love of your life. Love yourself enough to know when to stay and when to walk away.
Love means whatever you want it to mean and to whomever you want it to mean. You define your definition of what love is.
