Marine carpeting has been used several decades ago, but there have been a lot of mixed feelings about it. Marine carpeting involves the usual placement of carpets in boats. However, the carpets used decades ago are similar or the same with the household carpets used. Because of these materials, the boat carpets are constantly wet, mushed, with molds and mildew and becomes smelly. Nowadays, marine carpeting has evolved, which uses modern materials to avoid the carpet from constantly getting wet. At present, marine carpets are made from synthetic fibers or materials that make it more resistant from being wet. The materials are also more resistant to wear and tear, which makes it more durable. Since marine carpets need to be dry all the time, the synthetic material allows it to dry up quickly as compared to household carpets. In addition, they also prevent mold and mildew growth as well as resist staining. Marine carpets after being installed are constantly treated with protective sprays or substances to prevent it from fading as a result of UV light exposure.

Advantages of Marine Carpeting

Marine carpeting is more than increasing the aesthetic value of boats. You may consider having marine carpeting by looking at its advantages. Various advantages of marine carpeting include: Provides more comfort Since boaters typically sit on their boats for long periods of time, boat carpets are able to provide more comfort rather than the wooden or fiber glass surfaces of boats that easily strain the legs of boaters. Provides better traction When the boater’s feet come in contact with the boat carpet, the tendency is, there is better traction and makes the boater more stable. Prevents slipping and falling Since boat carpets improves traction on the boater’s feet, accidental falling and slips on the water is prevented.

Preparing your Boat for Carpeting

Marine carpeting is easily installed in any boat, but some boats may require several preparations in order to have the new marine carpeting secured in place. For those that have old boat carpeting, it first needs to be removed. The old carpet can be pulled off easily by the hand. Some glue or remnants on the surface of the boat is usually present so you need to scrape it using scrapers or any sharp tools. When the old glue is already removed, the boat should be sanded to make it smoother and ensure that the new carpeting will be securely placed or attached. For small boats with bare bottoms, a flat plane must be placed in order to prevent the water from getting into the interior of the hull and make the marine carpeting wet all the time. Once the flat plane is placed, the marine carpeting may already be installed. You can install the marine boating on your won, but you can also ask some professional upholstery shops to do it for you. During this time, marine carpeting should be considered to make your boat look better as well as keep you safer when you are out in the waters.
