Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney-related disorder that triggers the loss of protein in the urine. It is primarily caused by the conditions that damage the small blood vessels in the kidneys, called glomeruli and tubules. The condition causes swelling in the feet, ankles as albumin protein that gets skipped during Nephrotic syndrome is held responsible for keeping fluid balance in control. Losing albumin results in high blood pressure too.

The Treatment usually includes working on averting the condition that has caused it. And the best way to do this is to take Ayurvedic treatment. This is because the allopathic medication given to prevent and manage Nephrotic syndrome further poses a threat to the kidneys.

If not treated, the Nephrotic syndrome also results in an increased risk of infections and blood clots.

What are the symptoms of Nephrotic syndrome?

The signs and symptoms of Nephrotic syndrome include:

  • Severe swelling (edema), particularly around your eyes and in your ankles and feet
  • Foamy urine, a result of excess protein in your urine
  • Weight gain due to fluid retention
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weakness in the body
  • Infections
  • Blood clots
  • High blood pressure

When to see a doctor

It is important to make an appointment with your doctor if you have signs or symptoms that are related to Nephrotic syndrome. Primarily, it is the swelling in the body that states Nephrotic syndrome.

What are the causes of Nephrotic syndrome?

Nephrotic syndrome develops when there is damage to the blood vessels in the kidneys. This may happen because of a variety of conditions, some of which can be directly related to the kidneys or not.

The glomeruli filter your blood as it passes through your kidneys, separating things your body needs from those it doesn't. Healthy glomeruli keep blood protein (mainly albumin) — which is needed to maintain the right amount of fluid in your body — from seeping into your urine.

Possible causes of Nephrotic syndrome are:

  • Diabetic kidney disease - Diabetic kidney disease or diabetic nephropathy results in damage to glomerulonephritis.
  • Minimal change disease - Minimal change disease is the cause of Nephrotic syndrome in children. It means, the change has affected the glomeruli in the first place but if you undergo or examine the tissue under a microscope, it appears to be normal.
  • Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis - It is the scarring of the glomeruli due to one or the other problem, such as a genetic defect or medications or some other problem that can lead to scarring. Sometimes, it happens for no reason.
  • Amyloidosis - Amyloid is a protein that when accumulates in the organs cause problem. This buildup can also affect kidney function and leads to Nephrotic syndrome.
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus - This inflammatory disease can seriously damage the kidneys.
  • Membranous nephropathy - It is caused by the thickening of the membranes in the glomeruli. Primarily, the immune system can also lead to the thickening of the glomeruli but it is also caused by hepatitis B, malaria, cancer, lupus, etc.

When Pitta becomes excessive and mixes with Kapha, it leads to the formation of gallstones. Fortunately, Ayurveda offers effective preventive measures through dietary changes, herbal remedies, and lifestyle management. 1. Maintain Balanced Diges
