One of the first statements made in the book, A Course In Miracles from The Foundation of Inner Peace is “Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists, herein lies the peace of God.” On my third journey in more than 10 years through this incredible teaching manual, I have finally come to understand this as the Truth.

So just what is real anyway? What does that mean to the average person whose deepest desire is to have inner peace, and yet remains lost and lonely in a sea of confusion?

The Divine, God, Holy Spirit, Oneness, Light, Acceptance, Love. This is real and cannot be threatened. This is the place from whence we came, and therefore, we can be nothing else. Herein lies the peace of God. Once we accept this, herein lies the key to our own inner peace.

Ego, Darkness, Attack, Suspiciousness, Separateness, Rejection. This is unreal and therefore does not exist except through our allegiance to it, in which case it appears to be very real, but in truth, a massive illusion of the mind, one that depends solely on our willingness to tolerate it.

We were made in the likeness of God, the One Mind, and if God is perfect, and God is Love, then there can be no other Truth. Therefore, we cannot be anywhere except in the One Mind, and when we forget this we will despair, and we will attack. This arrogance is the denial of love, as love shares and arrogance withholds. As long as both appear to be desirable to us, the concept of choice, which is not of God, will remain with us. Quite simply, God Is. There is nothing else.

How then do we go about living this truth in our normal day-to-day lives? What would that look like? And how would that feel? When I look back to the first time I read A Course In Miracles, I remember feeling more frustrated than free! Pledging allegiance to Spirit was a huge threat to my ego, which at the time I thought was extremely real! How could all those angry, bitter, hateful, dark feelings not be real? How could all that emptiness, isolation, sadness and grief not be real? I can clearly remember screaming at God to prove to me that what I was experiencing was not real. It sure felt real to me! But in truth, I only suffered because I refused to accept what was real - that the Holy Spirit evaluates and accepts us as we truly are, as Love. The ego can’t do that. It is impossible, for the ego does not love. If we only receive as much as we can accept, then my refusal to accept God as real created a huge lack of Peace, Wholeness, and Joy in my life.

To accept that God Is, and nothing else is to accept Peace. And what could be a better stage than a planet with over 6 billion people on it to put this truth into practice!? For it is with each other that the Light of God is reflected back to us. How else could we possibly know God if not through the eyes of another? What is within us is always reflected back to us.

If we continue to accept darkness, pain, and suffering as our guide, we will surely self-destruct, not only as individuals, but also as a Whole.
It’s time to accept the Light of Love within ourselves. It’s time to look upon our fellow human beings and accept the Truth of who they are. It’s time to speak gently, walk softly, accept fully, dance sweetly, sing joyfully, look deeply, and love unconditionally with each and every soul that crosses our path. That soul is there because God put him or her there. They must be accepted, not rejected. They have been wisely placed there for our growth, an opportunity for us to love and teach love. It is only when we accept ourselves as the Light of Love that we can help another see it in themselves. This is the Divine calling of All. How then can there be anything more Sacred than another?
