In recent years, there is a form of business which has caught the attention of many people, and as such is the new big thing: internet business. There are many who now prefer to do all of their business over the internet, and there are more and more digital products which are up for sale. If you already have such a website, then you will notice that the greatest problem is driving traffic to the site. On top of that, the traffic needs to be targeted seeing as how people who randomly stumble on your website will simply leave and will not be interested in any content in it. There are various ways that you could drive traffic to your website, such as backlinks for example. However, the big brunt of most people`s traffic comes from searches performed on a search engine such as Google or Yahoo for example. These search engines function according to a certain algorithm which in turn determines that ranking of websites for a certain keyword. With the recent updates to the algorithm, websites are ranked by order of relevance to the keyword. If you plan on getting your website on the first page of Google, then you are going to have to perform something called search engine optimization, or SEO in short. What SEO boils down to in the end is how you manage the keywords which are in your written content, as well as elsewhere on the page, such as in the keyword tag or the H1 tags on your page. Contrary to popular belief, saturating your webpage with the keyword as much as possible will not bring you any closer to your goal; on the contrary, if the keyword is everywhere on the page without providing any really meaningful information, Google will simply look at the website as something which is trying to take advantage of the system, and may even un-index your site. The better way to go about search engine optimization is to first of all find about five to six long-tail keywords (long-tail keywords consist of at least three words, and you shouldn`t go over five words as that is simply way to narrow) which will be your main ones. In order to find out which keywords are appropriate, you will need to analyse them using a tool such as Google Adwords tool, which lets you see how many searches a keyword has per month, and how strong the competition is for the keyword. Ideally, you are going to select keywords which have very high searches per month combined with a low competition for it, meaning that currently a lot of people are looking up these keywords yet there are not a lot of websites which make use of the keyword. While SEO can be very tedious, time-consuming, and requires to be done from time to time, there is no way around it. Unless you make your webpage as search engine-friendly as possible, you are going to have a tough time driving traffic to it.
