What is Sincerity?

It is said that any act or deed which is backed by earnest feelings of sincerity is bound to be a success. Your sincerity is the greatest earning, your best asset in life. Param Pujya Dadashri defines the word “Sincerity” as to remain sincere to one’s own self, to remain sincere to the things he is decided on. To remain sincere to one’s own self means to remain sincere to your mind, to your intellect and to your ego. There are plenty of deceivers within your own self, which will try not to allow you to remain sincere. Yet, the extent to which you remain sincere to your resolution that much awakened awareness should surely prevail. As you begin to tread on the path of sincerity, you start developing morality too. The extent to which you are sincere and moral in your worldly interactions, you will face lesser and lesser difficulties in life. The virtues of sincerity and morality, when harnessed, also make your worldly interactions pure and smooth. If your conduct with others should in the same manner, as you would behave with your own self, you are said to be sincere. Param Pujya Dadashri suggests that, when you begin to be sincere to just only one person. If you were to find out that, someone said something negative about you. What would you do? A sincere person will not believe it at all, until he hears it directly. Instead he would directly call and ask what the matter really is. People instead break their sincerity when a difference of opinion occurs. Actually your sincerity should be such that it is not compromised even if physical fights happen. If even for a moment a negative thought for anyone arises in your mind, remove it; and you will then notice that not only your sincerity remains intact, but the other too is willing to remain sincere to you! Above all, it is important you to remain sincere to your spiritual guide (Guru). Once you establish someone as your Guru and you worship him, you should never ever criticize him even if he happens to scold you on some occasion. That is what determines your sincerity towards him. You may even wonder how did we become insincere in the first place? It is by observing people who have become insincere. This is actually the outcome of the knowledge that arises from association with worldly people. Now, while observing such insincere behavior, if you understand that insincerity is a weakness and with no prejudice or any harsh feeling towards the person who has become insincere. You should not let go off your sincerity at all and should not imbibe any bit of their weakness within you. Then you are said to have remained sincere. But what if the other person does not come to know about your sincerity? What if he even tells you, “You are insincere”? You should say, “No matter what, I shall never let go off my virtue of sincerity.” That is exactly how it should be! The fact that you have become sincere is the greatest thing of all, as it will take you to the ultimate goal that you have decided. Moreover, even if no one may know about the work you do sincerely, the world definitely feels its vibrations. You need not to say anything, yet it will certainly come out in the open one day. Such is the law of sincerity! The question that arises at this point is “How do I fill sincerity where insincerity has already made its home?” First and foremost, decide ‘What do I want to do?’ Once you’ve made a decision, nature starts helping you in that direction. And if you sincerely recall your decision several times through the day, it becomes a resolution.
