Slip disc is the pain of back with the disc protruding from the usual position in connection with the spine and lower body. Studies have shown that about 30 to 40 per cent of the world population suffered from this condition. It usually starts with consistent back and neck pain which can go on for weeks. Even though it is very uncomfortable, such pains from strains and pressure can be reduced with appropriate short-term measures, right rehabitative exercises and use of anti-inflammatory medication at doctor’s recommendation. But if the pain does not go away and you find your movements still being restricted to a certain extent, you need to get treatment again. The pain that most people are concerned with is the one that comes down from the back to the lower part of the body such as legs. Within our legs are nerve systems which act as the connection to our arms and upper body. So when extensive pressure is applied, it affects that nerve system and becomes directly responsible for the person’s mobility restrictions and extreme agony. In layman’s terms, this is identical to an electrical wire having a sudden short circuit. In the lower back, the nerves that exit the spine transport the pain flow from your legs to brain as well as emitted information for muscular function from your brain back to your legs. Upon pressure on the nerve in the lower back, your brain perceives the information to be from the nerve in your legs rather than the actual disc problem in your back. This can be caused by various sources. Nerves travelling from the spine and into the arms or legs through tiny openings within the spine bones. Those openings have sufficient room for the nerve and some blood vessels to pass but not enough for the rest. So when the disc protrudes from its usual position, it will fill the gap reserved for the nerve root. That is how and when disc slip came about. rnThe disc slip – acting as extra material – applies pressure and causes the nerve root to worsen in condition. Disc ruptures are quite common in both neck and lower back with the same symptons of irritating nerves and pain due to merchanical pressure. Although disc slip tends to occur to those in the late 30s and beyond, there is no definite guarantee that it will not happen to young people and children as well. The best way to recify this problem is to see your doctor as to what exercises and sports you can and cannot be involved as constant movement and body rotation could be the main causes.
