Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an enlightened being says, “There should be a lot of peace between husband and wife. If they hurt each other, then they are not husband and wife at all. That does not happen in true friendship. This (relation between husband and wife) is the highest friendship of all. It (hurting each other) cannot happen here. It should not happen at all between a husband and a wife; it may happen elsewhere. A husband and wife are indeed considered friends. They are to run their home as two friends would.” Spirituality makes the married life wholesome and healthy. rnThe underlying foundation connected to spirituality is not to hurt any living being in the slightest extent through one’s mind, body or speech. Therefore, where there is spirituality, respect, understanding, peace and harmony towards each other prevails in every relationship. Let us understand what is spirituality, specifically in married life... Imagine you are living with your best friend. How would your relationship be? So, when spiritually ushers into married life, •You live with each other like best friends.rnoYou are always there for each other.rnoYou take due care to never hurt each other.rnoYou are supportive and relaxed at the same time.rnoYou run your home as two friends would.rnoRather than looking at the mistakes or faults of each other, you focus on each other’s positive qualities and play to each other’s strengths. •You are totally sincere to your partner.rnoYour love for each other is genuine, unconditional, always forgiving and full of purity. rnoYou are contented and happy with each other. rnoYou do not have similar thoughts or feelings for anyone else but your married partner. •There is a lot of peace between the two of you. o Spirituality in married life implies there are no fights with each other. Even if it happens, it would seldom be once or twice in a month, just like a ‘no moon day’ comes only once a month. o Conflicts are caused by ignorance. The only solution to resolve these conflicts is to acquire knowledge. With the spiritual knowledge, you are able to take adjustments more easily and more amicably, and thereby you avoid clashes. o If any issue arises, each one on your part has a firm clarity that ‘this is solely due to my karmic account and I want to settle it with peace and equanimity.’rnoBoth are busy dissolving your own ego rather than indulging in hurting the other’s ego. o There is minimal insistence, expectations or demands between the two of you. And if for some reason you find that your partner is not satisfied or has felt hurt by you, you adopt the path of pratikraman (sincere repentance for your mistakes) to turn things around. o Differences in opinion reduce drastically, as a result of which there is less of quarrelling. Consequently love increases. When this happens, know that spirituality has been well understood now; not otherwise. •There no more remains ‘mine’ and ‘yours’, everything is ‘ours’ rno Spirituality gradually brings an end to the divisive intellect within you, that caused sense of separation in your worldly life. o On the basis of the gained spiritual understanding, the two of you realize that the pleasure and pain of the worldly life that you are experiencing today is a result of the causes that you yourself have created and hence you become partners to it. o The two of you perform your respective duties in life, sharing good understanding between each other. o You both put forth your individual efforts to progress on the path of spirituality, rendering full co-operation to each other. o Your approach to each other’s unfolding karmas is that of patience and understanding. Thus, to conclude, spirituality gives a thorough perspective of how you can live through your married life amidst peace, happiness and mutual respect for each other, without inflicting any pain to one another. And once you’ve learnt to apply spirituality in married life, it becomes very easy to integrate this knowledge into other aspects of your life too. We truly hope the above inspires you to bring spirituality in your married life, and you thereby lead a happy and rich, goal-driven life.
