Perhaps you’ll agree that absolutely nothing about stress feels good. Stress is basically feelings based on insecurities of not knowing what to do about any particular situation. Stress feels angry, confusing, and sad. Stress also feels anxious, irritating, depressed, and fearful. Sometimes these feelings are felt at the same time making it difficult to concentrate. The amount of stress that we create for ourselves is at times overwhelming. Although it is easy to take a walk and immediately begin to feel better; out of habit, we find it easier to pout, mope, and complain. In reality, we really don’t see the benefit in taking a walk, as the problem will still be there waiting for us when we return. When we engage in negative thinking, our thoughts, actions or non-actions, actually moves us further away from finding a solution.
Initially when we are stressed, we may decline attending one function, then another, until we have given up most social activities. We think in becoming a hermit and closing ourselves off from family and friends that will help us to overcome our current situations. We are creating voids in areas of our life by avoiding living our life. When we choose to live in stuck place, by hiding, and remaining in fear and lack, we are causing feelings of doom to continue. We are actually creating more stress. And, we still haven’t found a solution to the problem(s).
Ask yourself, “Has worry or fear ever resolved any problem?” What is necessary in getting out of any jam we are facing is to simply make a decision to do SOMETHING positive. If we keep doing the same things, in the same way, we are going to keep experiencing the same limited and frustrating results. Making better choices is the first step to relieving stress. When we are feeling out of sorts, the best gift we can give to our Self is to do something enjoyable. The act of doing SOMETHING positive is making a decision to engage our senses in a constructive way. Give yourself permission to do something fun. It may be something simple, like treating yourself to a wonderfully flavored ice-cream cone. Surely a fun-flavored ice-cream cone won’t fix all of your problems, although it does give you a new experience. This simple action gave you something to feel good about yourself. You made a decision to stop moping and feeling sorry for yourself. You made a decision to go to the ice-cream parlor. And you made a decision, to try a new flavor. Each positive decision builds upon itself creating feelings of being calm and resourceful. Relieving stress and enjoying one’s life is simply a decision. If you can decide on a new flavor to choose at the ice-cream parlor, you are certainly qualified to let go of feeling stressed. These feelings are yours. Only you can decide how you feel. In truth, the best cure for stress is LOVE. Love yourself… love the stress…and watch what happens.
Good judgment helps us to move forward. A clear and peaceful mind allows us to eliminate feelings of being stuck or stagnant. As we become more loving of our circumstances, we are utilizing our senses more efficiently. When we are loving, we are disce
ing. We are, therefore, capable of making decisions based on rationality, as opposed to making decisions based in fear. When we are loving, we are utilizing the process of discrimination for the purpose it was intended. The ability to make better decisions always moves us towards peaceful resolutions…, in whatever circumstances we are experiencing.
