Trust. Trust builds a strong foundation on which a happy relationship thrives. Without trust, you live a life of worry, doubt and hurt, and this affects your relationship quiet adversely. But where you have the ‘will’, in case you feel unsure regarding anything, you will ask rather than allowing the doubt to linger in your mind. You work on developing the trust first, and then help it grow strong as you get to know each other more vividly. Ability to adjust. This skill brings wonderful results, when in practice. Say for example, you are late from work and you had a dinner date with your partner. When you get home, you see your partner is seething. Since you have the ‘will’, this immediately alerts you to adjust. So, rather than wasting time in arguing, counter-arguing and allowing things to blow out of proportion, you silently trim your actions, reactions and responses, and thus salvage the momentary crisis, making your partner so happy, that at the end of it all, your delay is discounted and compensated. When we learn to adjust with one another in every situation, life becomes truly wonderful. On the other hand, being obstinate, difficult, and insistent on being right makes us and our relationship totally miserable. So, it is better to learn the art of adjustment as soon as we can to make our relationship happy and worthwhile. Communication. It is one of the key things on the basis of which the relationship survives the brunt of the worst of mishaps and misunderstandings. Hence, have an open and honest discussion, especially when things seem to have become difficult. Never assume things or act with prejudices. Your ego may try to play tricks, but if you have the ‘will’, you will not let your ego win, and will surely go over and talk things out. The more you communicate, the closer you get; and in this, your relationship stands to benefit. Patience and Endurance. Fixed viewpoints, arguments, conflicts are such negative practices that have an enormous power to make even a solid relationship porous. It is life, so conflicts may happen. But where there’s a ‘will’, the virtues of patience and endurance come handy in order to keep the relationship healthy. Never do anything in the heat of the moment because when we are emotional and cannot think straight, by doing haste, we could hurt others and leave ourselves in regret. Hence, give yourself time and let things calm down before you talk or act. Accept your partner as is. We all make mistakes. Learning to understand and let go the mistakes that you or your partner may have made, will turn your life around and give you more time for joy. Further, when you like and appreciate the good qualities of your partner, deliberately defocusing the annoying ones, it shows your ‘will’. And what this does for you is, it grows the seeds of good opinion that you’ve sowed for your partner, and allows your relationship to reap its good fruits, day in and day out.
