In today's fast pace world of distractions, personal commitments, job pressures, how does an agency or department stay most up to date with their Police Equipment to stay most protected and prepared in the field. All officers can stay updated and informed by staying actively involved or participate in industry expos and following manufacturers websites, as well as staying informed on product press releases in law enforcement community forums and online journals, but it usually seems better suited to have a designated team of officers and/or administration staff to make the decisions for the force on it's bulk purchases. Required protection and necessary gear must be also considered with federal, states, and municipal shrinking budgets. Only a select few or team in most departments are actually privy on a consistent basis to what is available regarding budget and what purchases can actually be made. But on the flip side of this, many departments also give set allowances to the individual officers for gear and clothing so it is still important for most officers to stay very informed on what products are available when entering harm's way on a daily basis.

An easy to get a quick update on the latest innovations is if possible to visit police conventions such as IACP annually. Each year hundreds of manufacturers and distributors set up to display their latest innovations. But the luxury of every officer visiting this show is not always possible, therefore, keeping up to date with some of the premier police equipment brands such as Smith & Wesson handcuffs, Defense Technology pepper spray, Benchmade knives, Blackhwak, 5.11 Tactical gear, ASP batons, GH Armor Systems, Force One Armor, Armor Express, INTAPOL boots and breeches, Smith & Warren badges becomes a job in itself. In addition, some manufacturers offer training courses which has also become part of many officers routines. Also, some manufacturers even offer product test trials to decision makers inside departments, so please check with your preferred gear to see if some of these programs are available for your department. Many departments put the trust in their top ranking officers for this task but in addition it should also be equally important for a department to build relationships with suppliers, distributors and vendors of the top police equipment brands to help in this process.

Building relationships with suppliers can greatly increase the influx of knowledge to every department. As there are so many categories to stay on top of such as holsters, belts, cases and holders, police handcuffs and restraints, flashlights, police batons, footwear, apparel and uniforms, pepper spray, knives, equipment bags, gun accessories, optics, training and safety equipment, metal detection, fire and rescue tools, firearms and the list goes on, a set program with details and scheduled meetings at least quarterly or monthly should implemented on how to handle staying on top of the ever increasing product offerings. Many suppliers will happily offer advice, provide product training, as well as provide on-site fittings at no additional charges. In addition, companies such as Police Equipment Depot offers many value added services besides offer some of the top selling police equipment brands at the lowest cost. Each department must be constantly obtaining knowledge so the more people involved in this process, the more secure and protected they will be.
