There are a lot of different types of insurance out there. It seems like no matter what it is, the insurance industry will cover it (if it’s not too big a risk for them anyway). There’s auto insurance, life insurance, health insurance, home insurance etc. Those are the types of insurance that are relevant to an overwhelming majority of American consumers, but there are indeed several other kinds. Right now, there are currently 8 million American families that own an RV. Of course, the insurance industry knows this, and has created their own products that act as RV insurance. It’s never fun to go through the process of buying insurance. Subjecting oneself to salespeople, trying to understand contracts that for all the sense they make may as well be written in a foreign language, it’s a trying task. But for RV owners, it is an important process to go through all over again. Even a lower end RV these days can cost somewhere around $50,000, and that doesn’t even include all of the goodies families may choose to throw in them. So it is absolutely important for RV owners to purchase insurance on their RVs. Here’s a couple of things that they should keep in mind. First off, RV insurance is not car insurance. There are a lot of similarities to be sure, but if an RV owner bought a standard auto policy for an RV, there would be some severe gaps in coverage. A typical car doesn’t come with stuff like an awning or a slide-out. Certainly a typical car doesn’t have a satellite dish, like some RVs do. The reason RV insurance can’t simply be just another form of auto insurance is that because an RV is not simply just an auto. For the period of time that is being used, that RV is also a home. So the best RV insurance will feature components of both auto and home insurance. There are several components of RV insurance that will not be found in a standard auto policy, such as emergency vacation expense. This will cover the living expenses for travelers when their RV has been made uninhabitable due to an act of nature or an accident, that is if the family is more than 150 miles away from home. These living expenses include food, lodging and sometimes transportation. Personal effects coverage will cover the replacement cost of items lost from the RV. Then there’s vacation liability, which will protect travelers when others injure themselves on the travelers’ campground. While most national insurance companies do offer up RV insurance, the best place for RV owners to buy it is a company that specializes in RV insurance. This includes Explorer RV, Foremost, Progressive, RV America and Twin Peaks Insurance. Good Sam Club is not necessarily an insurance company, but they are the biggest RV owners club in America, and they do offer a fantastic and affordable insurance plan for RV owners. So those are some of things that RV owners that aren’t covered should know about how RV insurance works, but this is just scratching the surface. RV owners should absolutely consult an insurance agent. But hopefully, these tips can be of help. For more information about Nevada New & Used RVs and Nevada RV dealers, check these out.
