When it comes to web design, we are all concerned about what has to be included in a design, but rarely care about the things to be avoided. This is exactly where we get into pitfalls and end up creating a website that annoys and frustrates our viewers. It is not just newbies but also experienced professionals who commit these mistakes. Let us discover things to be avoided:

Providing online PDF file for reading

People just hate things that break their flow and PDF file is one of them. Providing PDF file for online reading is the worst thing you can do for your viewers, because this doesn’t allow even simple things like printing or saving documents. Moreover, this file is hard to navigate which makes the content difficult to read.

Visited link color not changed

Easy navigation system also means realizing user about their previous and current location, this helps user decide where to go next. It is possible only if users could identify where he is exactly located at present. Links being a key factor in navigation system has to have color changing feature once user visits this. Else he will visit the site again and keep on wandering in the site and finally leave your site, frustrated and annoyed.

Texts that cannot be scanned

Users like to visit site that provide crisp information which is easy to scan. Don’t throw a bulk of content over visitors, which lack interest. Create document design that would initiate interest. You can create sun heading, lists in bullets, break content in paragraphs, etc.

Disabling user’s browser font size

In CSS, web designers can disable the web browser’s “change font size” button and simultaneously fix the font size. More often, the fixed text size is tiny that decreases the readability of the texts as people with weaker eye sight gets it tough to read such tiny texts. So, respect the users’ preference and don’t fix the font size.

Creating designs that looks like advertisements

Often designers run after selective attention and in desire of that they start creating a feature that looks like advertisements, without realizing the fact that web users have become smart and stopped paying attention to any such feature in the page that looks like an advertisement. So, avoid using animations like flash texts or other aggressive animations. Pop-up purges are also a big no if you really don’t want your window to be closed before it is actually read.
