Bladder stores urine before it is passed out of the body. At times, abnormal growth of cells is observed and can lead to the development of the cancer. Most common occurrences of the cancer begin at the bladder lining. At times, the symptoms are similar to that of the urinary tract infection and proper diagnosis can reveal the actual cause of the symptoms. In fact, the earliest stages of cancer do not produce signs and symptoms. However, after certain period, following symptoms are observed
- Unsuccessful urination attempts with an immense urge to urinate
- Urination with pain
- Pelvic pain
- Intermittent urine flow
Several tests are available for accurate detection of bladder cancer in spite of common symptoms. Tests like Intravenous Pyelogram, Urine Cytology, Tumor Marker Tests, Cystoscopy, CT Urography, and FISH tests are effective in timely diagnosis.
The treatment of the cancer depends upon various factors like age, type, grade, and stage of tumor. Commonly practiced treatment methods are surgeries, chemotherapy, radiations, and immunotherapy. After the successful elimination of the cancer cells, patients need to undergo rehabilitation for complete recovery.

The symptoms of the cancer are identifiable with tests and timely detection in the early stage helps in rapid improvement. A successful course of treatments helps the patients to get complete relief. However, some patients need to undergo a follow up treatment as there are high chances that some types of cancer may reoccur. The usual follow up period begins after 3 to 6 months after the successful completion of the treatment.
