Aside from water, proteins make up basically and contribute to everything in our body. In essence protein and amino acids are the building blocks of our whole body. Muscles, tissues, hair, nails, all made up of protein. If you do not have enough protein in your body you cannot recover and develop, let alone build your muscles. The body needs to break protein down to amino acids to build muscles. So, no matter how much you work out if you don't have protein you will not gain muscle mass. Another important point to remember is that every time you work out you are tearing down muscles and then rebuilding them. Protein is necessary to repair and rebuild your muscles. This brings us onto the importance of Whey Protein, a derivative from milk. However, unlike most milk proteins, whey protein contains little to no fat or lactose (sugar). With Whey Protein you get all the advantages of protein without the excess baggage other proteins come with i.e. fat and lactose. The benefits of this supplement go on. Studies have also shown that Whey Protein increases our blood levels of glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant which is essential to a healthy immune system. As we get older glutathione levels decrease and our immune system weakens. So, whey protein is not only good for building and repairing muscles, it may also improve your overall health. There are a few different forms of whey Protein that are available on the market. The most popular are known as whey protein concentrate and whey protein. Both of these proteins have different rates of absorption, so many people wonder when is the best time to take whey protein so that it can accomplish its mission in our bodies. A general rule that can be followed is that people can take whey protein right after a workout and before workout as it increases anabolic output and also because this is the time when your body goes into a growth stage. Having the amino acids that make up the protein is the key at this point. Usually you can use your whey before for more energy during workouts, or after for rebuilding the muscle. You can take it anywhere from half an hour to an hour after training, but the optimum stage is within the first 20 minutes after the workout. On every good tub of protein, it will give you suggestions on the label of when they recommend having their servings. Aside from taking the protein around your training session, its recommended to take it first thing in the morning because the body has just gone through 8 hours (more or less depending on how long you sleep) without having food which means that the proteins level are down and they need to be boosted. You can take whey protein before you go to sleep. This helps in preventing the protein breakdown that naturally occurs when we are sleeping. If you are not trying to build muscle mass then this protein breakdown is fine. But if you are working out you want to try to minimize any losses you suffer when you sleep and your protein metabolism slows down. For the people who are trying to bulk up even more, they can take it at Brunch and Linner as a snack. Brunch is that snack between breakfast and lunch and Linner a snack between lunch and dinner.
