When TV is Disadvantageous to Kids

Today’s kids are no longer how they were around 80 years ago. During those days kids were more active and they read and they learned skills. They played outside the house, they helped their parents with the chores and they did their homework. Until TV came into the picture. Obviously the kids today do the same thing, don’t take me wrong, kids today are great it’s just that they are more ‘modern.’ Today’s kids love to sit in front of the TV and watch all types of shows and movies. They like to pore over the TV guides and find out the schedule of their favourite shows. In fact, parents these days ask their kids what’s showing or not and without hesitating the kids can provide them with the right answer. In fact, there are some kids who can advise their parents on which shows they should watch and which they should not. They know which shows are getting the rave reviews and they could even quote whatever is written about them. They also know which shows their parents should look forward to. How can this be disadvantageous? Well, it is the focus issue – kids are too focused on TV and they can forget the whole world when they are in front of the tube. Many kids, if not most, forget they have homework and they won’t even read about anything unless their favourite shows recommend it. Take for example cartoons. Today’s cartoons are not like they were around 30 years ago. These days the graphic language and violence are astounding. In fact there are some animations which are ‘for adults only.’ These shows are so graphic and violent that the networks show them after prime time, unfortunately this does not stop the kids from stealing in and watching them. In fact, many kids can access the internet and just log in to the sites which show these graphic animation. Parent should be more aware of what their kids are doing really and they should also be aware of how many hours the kids spend in front of it. There are some kids which at a very young age are already obese because they eat all the junk food and are couch potatoes. Because the kids hardly get out anymore, they miss out on playing outside the house and absorbing Vit D. Kids and TV are okay; just make sure that there is enough time spent outside of the boob tube.
