When You Should Get A STD Test
Sexually transmitted diseases are highly spread and some of them can become very serious. There are many diseases in this group and most of all have different symptoms, so the only way to know if you are healthy or not is to get tested for STD. But the main question is when should you do the test.

A STD, which is a sexually transmitted disease, can be transmitted through semen and vaginal fluids, as well as skin to skin contact. When you have an intercourse with someone who already has a STD, you are at risk of becoming infected, but there are also cases when this doesn't happen. Lesbians and homosexuals can also get STDs. If you suspect your partner has a STD, you should get a test but this is not the only time when you should to the test.
On regular basis
Everyone should get tested for STDs on regular basis. Depending on how many sexual partners you have, this routine is different. If you are in a stable relationship, you should be get the test each year. If you have multiple partners, you might have to take the test every three months. Your doctor can advise you on the frequency of the tests, based on your lifestyle.
Before you sleep with a new partner
Another moment when you should get a STD test is before sleeping with a new partner. This will ensure you are healthy and you know what you bring in the new relationship. Ideally, both partners should do the test. Some couples overcome the awkwardness and take the test together.
Even if you do use condoms
Most people think that if they use a condom there is no risk of becoming infected with a STD. However, this is not true, as condoms are not 100% effective, even when used correctly. And most couples don't use them correctly, which decreases their effectiveness a lot. If you have an intercourse with someone you don't know and use a condom, you still have to take the test for an accurate evaluation of your health.
If you have unprotected sex
If you happen to have unprotected sex with someone whose health status you don't know, you have to get a STD test. The same is valid if the condom breaks, which happens quite frequent.
If you suspect something is wrong
If you feel something is wrong down there or you don't feel well, you should consider taking a STD test. The most common symptoms for STD include redness in the genital area, pain while peeing, pain while having sex and flu-like symptoms. If you have any of these, you might be infected with a STD or you might have one of the million other diseases which have these symptoms.
To stay safe, take the test and see what's happening with your health. At the same time, many people don't experience any symptom when they are infected with a STD, which brings us to the first point on this list: get tested on regular basis.
When your partner has any of the STD symptoms
If you see any of the above potential symptoms of a STD in your partner, it's definitely time to get tested. Your partner might have a STD (or not!), which means you might have been exposed to STD as well. Getting a test is the only way to know for sure.
If you do test positive for a STD, the sooner you know about it, the sooner you can start the treatment, so delaying might only worsen things, if you are infected. Moreover, you have a responsibility for your partner, who has the right to know about your health status.
