Famous for its palaces, forts, gardens and lakes the city of Udaipur has many major tourist attractions that exude charm when you visit Udaipur. Udaipur tourism is on its full brim when there is either monsoon time since people come from near and far to see the flowing beauty of the magnificent lakes or during the time when people come to celebrate and get indulged in the festive spirit of Udaipur in months of March and April. Hill stations have always played with our senses when it comes to touring, but you would have never seen a desert city as beautiful as Udaipur which gives tough competition to even hill stations too!
Places to visit in Udaipur:
Some of the must visit places while embarking of the Udaipur tourism journey are stated as under:
City palace- this palace stands tall on the eastern banks of the popular Pichola Lake. A panoramic view can be obtained of the posh Lake Palace hotel from its balconies.
Lake palace- this palace was built in the mid 16th century. Constructed of marble and located on the island of Jag Niwas on the Pichola Lake, it is now operated as a 5 star hotel.
Jag Mandir- an island on the Pichola Lake famous for its garden courtyard, this place was a refuge to Shah Jehan when he was revolting against his father.
Monsoon palace- also sometimes known as palace of Sajjan Garh, this palace took shelter to the Maharajas in summers. It had a natural rain water harvesting system that could supply water all the year round.
Jagdish Temple- situated just near the Pichola Lake, this temple is a very holy temple for the Hindus that were built by the Maharaja Jagat Singh. It portrays the remarkable Indo-Aryan architectural understanding.
Saheliyon ki Bari- this place was constructed for the young women who used to accompany a Rajput princess when she used to come after marriage as a part of her dowry.
Gulab Bagh and Zoo- Maharana Sajjan Singh laid down this rose garden which is so lusciously beautiful towards the eastern side of the Pichola Lake. Inside the big garden there is a small zoo that is house to birds, leopards, tigers, Chinkara gazelle and other wild animals.
