Presently, there are several remedies for acne, but regrettably doctor cannot say that there is a singular remedy for dealing with acne breakouts. Instead of recommending a single medication for acne, doctors usually try various treatments for different people before getting the treatment of combined treatments that would remove the problem completely. This is because acne type varies and does so many things to your skin - and this varies depending on the person. This is why acne is a stubborn skin condition that is very difficult to treat.
So many experimentation and trial and error with different treatments is in most cases required before an effective medication is located. For most people that want an overnight solution, this can be very exasperating especially for the folks that have a stubborn acne scar that takes even more time to fade away. It is wise for you to see a dermatologist or a doctor that has a lot of experience in treating acne sufferers - with this you can be assure that they would be well equipped to give you the best advice in dealing with your acne. However, there are some rules you need to follow when trying to wipe away acne.
Do not scrub the area of your skin that is disturbed by acne. Scrubbing just inflames and irritates the acne and this only leads to more pimples and this only complicates the problem more and more.
No matter what, do not self-medicate or self-treat your acne. When it comes to pimple removal make sure that you only leave that to a doctor to do in an antiseptic area. Most of the time, a topical cream is usually the first treatment that a doctor will recommend to you. Just like all treatments meant for acne, topical creams or lotions are meant to only manage the symptoms of acne, they do not completely cure it.
The type of treatment you receive is dependent on the severity of your acne lesions. The medication could be targeted at clearing the pores, killing the pimple causing bacteria, lowering the amount of oils produced by the skin or in balancing the hormone levels. If doctors discover that using topical solutions does not really offer much relief to the acne condition, then they would in most cases combine them with antibiotics. Most topical creams contain benzoyl peroxide, which is very effective but must be used in small quantities.
In the past benzoyl peroxide was regarded as being harmless to the skin, but recently it has been discovered that protracted use or overuse can cause premature aging of the skin. This is why you must bear in mind that you need to keep your doctor informed about whatever medications that you are using for your condition.
One last you should also bear in mind is that your acne would not disappear overnight no matter what treatment you use. In most of the cases, your condition would actually get worse before it starts getting better. This is why doctors always advise that you stay committed to a treatment for at least 4 – 6 weeks before you can expect to see impressive improvements in your skin. So even if you have tried a medication before and you saw no results, you need to expect that you might try a variety of treatment before you locate the one that is best for you.
