Visual inspection requires a mirror because shape, size, nipple and skin needs to be observed during this phase of examination and manual phase requires a place to lay down with one arm under head to look for lumps, bumps and swelling in the armpit and in any area of the breast. A few skin changes can also be observed with the help of manual examination so it is necessary to perform the complete examination including visual and manual both phases.
