Why I Live in Hinkley, CA We were renting a house in Barstow, CA and one day the owner knocked onrnthe door and told us that he and his family were going to move back to Barstowrnand we needed to leave. We had a month to month lease and luckily, we didn't rnunpack all our stuff. This same stuff we've been hauling from Arizona to Cali-rnfornia to Indiana to North Carolina and back to California. (I have said all myrnlife - “I will never live in or want to live in California) Well, we found a house with the help of a Real Estate lady that was quite nice. rnWe got all the paper work signed etc. and then the moving men came to get allrnour belongings moved. What's one more move, we were use to it and so werernour dogs. This place was on an acre of land that was NOT taken care of. We rnstarted cleaning up the yard and my sister started to actually unpack! It was the rnfirst time we unpacked since we left Arizona. One day we received a notice from the Sheriff’s Department advising us thatrnwe were being evicted. We had one week to get out of the house. Called thernReal Estate lady who was receiving our rent checks and she started checking rnto find out what was going on. Well, it turned out the owner of the house (whornlived in Pennsylvania) was not making his house payments. We tried to findrnout if we could take over his payments, but the answer was no! At this same rntime, I had a cut on my left leg that wouldn't heal. The Doctor I wanted to gornto was on her honeymoon. I went to a quake who had me with every disease rnanyone can think of, made appointments for every medical center in Californiarnand I was confused as hell. I did nothing! We drove all over Barstow looking for something to live in. We didn't think werncould buy so we were looking to rent. My sister and kept driving around lookingrnfor a place to live, plus the Real Estate lady was helping us. Somewhere in be-rntween all this, my left leg was amputated. We found a house in Hinkley on 5 acres that was for sale. It looked like a dumprnfrom what we could see. We couldn't get onto the property as it was fenced and rnlocked. In the meantime we were getting very close to the day we had to be outrnof the other house we were in. Finally the sale was getting started but we couldn'trnjust move in. Inspections and stuff like that had to be done. The clock was ticking.. The Real Estate lady who we were dealing with all this time said that she and herrnhusband owned a little trailer in a trailer park in Barstow and we could stay therernuntil everything went through. So to a little trailer we went. I had to crawl up rnthe steps on my rear, but at least we had a place to stay. Finally the day camernwhen we could actually move into our own house. It's small but it's ours. Nornone can tell us to get out.... The five acres were wall to wall tumble weed and other desert weeds. We hiredrna guy that worked for Pat (cousin) and he hand pulled every one of those weeds.rnIt took him forever, but he didn't charge us very much. He did a good job andrnwe have been keeping it clean ever since. Every year we have made an upgrade rnto this house. This year it was new windows. Well, that's why I live in Hinkley, rnCA and since we got a “reverse mortgage” on the property, I'll be here forever. I really don't know why I'm telling a bunch of people about myself!
